Report
With only a handful of clubs each in Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia-Hercegovina, the three countries played a combined Alpe Adria Football League from 2013 to 2015. The 2013 season featured 5 teams: Maribor Generals and Alp Devils from Slovenia, and Zagreb Raiders, Zagreb Thunder and Osijek Cannons in Croatia. Maribor Generals defeated Zagreb Raiders 19-12 in AAFL Bowl I. The 2014 season saw massive expansion of the league, adding Sarajevo Spartans from Bosnia-Hercegovina and Sirmium Legionaires, Split Sea Wolves and Zagreb Patriots from Croatia, replacing the Zagreb Thunder who left the league. Again Maribor Generals won the AAFL Bowl, defeating Alp Devils 15-6. For 2015 at least one Serbian team, the Pancevo Panthers, was added. Maribor Generals won the three-in-a-row with a 36-16 victory in AAFL Bowl III in Zagreb against the host Patriots. Of interest to Irish readers is a player with an Irish name, Sean Frezell, who played for the Generals in 2015. The league ceased operating after the 2015 season.
