Report

Following WWII the Canadian Rugby Union was down to 3 divisions from 6 prior to the War. The Western Interprovincial Union had merged from 3 divisions into one, and the Intercollegiate Rugby Football Union had ceased to play for the Grey Cup. The Grey Cup Champions between 1946 and 1955 were Toronto Argonauts (1946 and 1947), Calgary Stampeders (1948), Montreal Alouettes (1949), Toronto Argonauts (1950), Ottawa Rough Riders (1951) , Toronto Argonauts (1952), Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1953), Edmonton Eskimoes (1954 and 1955).

The Ontario Rugby Football Union had resigned from Senior Football after 1949, and the Hamilton Tigers and Hamilton Wildcats merged as Hamilton Tiger-Cats. In 1954 the Canadian Rugby Union had added the British Columbia Lions in Vancouver on the West Coast to Senior Football for the first time, thus laying the foundations of the original nine which formed the Canadian Football Council in 1956 after it broke zaway from the Canadian Rugby Union and started Professional Football in Canada. In 1956 the CFC renamed itself the Canadian Football League.
