About

The Capitol Bowl was the first International Tournament involving Irish teams. At the time there was a separate Northern Ireland American Football Association, with the Dublin Celts the only kitted team in the Republic of Ireland, electing to play matches against both English and Northern Irish teams.

There was a united Irish American Football League the following season, 1987, after the Dublin Tornadoes joined the Celts south of the border.

While this was not an ideal situation at the time it was part of Irish American Football History.
