Final: Blue Demons 82 Leixlip Zalgiris 60

Blue Demons game plan of forcing Leixlip out wide and into taking mid-range shots worked, as Zalgiris’ shots would not drop into the basket for them. The match started at a fast pace, and with MVP Liam Carmody proving invaluable on both offense and defence the Blue Demons were 22-17 up at the end of the first quarter. Eight points in the first minute of the second from the Blue Demons forced Leixlip into an early time out to steady the players, and the match remained close until the third quarter, with Blue Demons going in 16 points to the good at half-time. The Blue Demons would eventually build up a 77-51 lead, before closing out the match 82-69 winners, to retain the National Intermediate Cup Competition. Ryan murphy’s fast break at the end of the first quarter and Shane McCarthy’s accurate shooting at the start of the second gave the Cork side the cushion they would keep for the rest of the game, despite the best efforts of Romas Eidukas, Marius Kasperavicius and Kestutis Damulevicius for Zalgiris. Final: Fr. Mathews 55 Meteors 45

A comeback wat the end of the third quarter ensured a first title for Cork’s Fr. Mathews. Both sides took time to get into the game and scoring was low. Meteors got off to a start first, opening up an 8-2 lead in the first quarter, however, a huge three-pointer from Emma Gallagher saw Fr. Mathews close the gap and get into their stride. another three-pointe, this time from Olivia Dupuy, saw a seven point gap 36 seconds earlier close to just one. meteors once again built an eight-point lead in the third before Niamh Dwyer’s scoring turned the game into a ten-point Fr. Mathews lead, one they would hold on to for what Dwyer said was an”absolutely massive” win for the club.[3]

Final: Ballincollig 69 Keanes SuperValu Killorglin 64

An All-Munster Final between Cork’s Ballincollig and Kerry’s Killorglin served up a thriller. Three times the sides were level in the fourth quarter, but 11 points from Ballincollig’s Cameron Clark in the final ten minutes and a timely block by Ronan O’Sullivan with 15 seconds to go sealed the Corkk sides first ever National Title. Clark was named MVP for his 29 point total, and Killorglin could consider themselves unlucky to have come up against him. It was Killorglin’s first appearance at this level and Kevin Gray was well up to the task of matching Clark, putting up back-to-back three-pointers to get Killorglin into the game, and the battle between Gray and Clark win the first quarter was one of the features of the match. Daniel Jokubaitis scored 27 points to top-score for Killorglin and get them back into striking distance during an 11-0 run of points in which he scored seven. Late in the third Gray put Killorglin 46-45 ahead to the delight of the Kerry fans, however, Ciaran O’Sullivan levelled for Ballincollig from the three-point line, and Ballincollig dug deep to win the game 69-64 in what O’Sullivan described as a “dogfight”. Final – DCU Mercy 72 Ambassador UCC Glanmire 71

DCU Mercy won their third National Cup Final of the weekend in a last-gasp 72-71 victory over Glanmire. A point was all that separated the teams at the end, leaving DCU captain and MVP Sarah Woods to wonder if she was dreaming. It was DCU Mercy’s first Cup Final win since 2011 and they stopped Glanmire’s five-in-a-row attempt in the process. DCU took a 19-16 lead in the first quarter, however, Glanmire fought back in the second quarter, Casey Grace netting a 20-footer for her first points of the game to put Glanmire 37-35 half-time lead, and cap a 13-0 run. The lead would change hands 12 times over the course of the matc, and Glanmire could have won it if Ashley Primm’s three-point shot had gone in on the buzzer, however it wasn’t to be and DCU Mercy finished one point winners in a game that had all the tension and drama won could imagine. Sarah Woods would finish top-scorer on 21 points to cap a glorious weekend for her and her team. [3]

Final – UCD Marian 62 Black Amber Templeogue 68

Templeogue won their second Cup Final in three years and added to their U18 Cup win earlier in the day by beating UCD Marian 62-68 in a close encounter. Defence was key in the first Quarter as the teams gave up just 27% of 33 shots. Luke Thompsons three pointer gave Templeogue an early lead, however, UCD Marian scored 21 points in the second quarter to draw close but Baolach Morrisson put Templeogue 50-45 up at the half with a crucial three-pointer. Conor Meany, a graduate of their Youth Programme, proved instrumental in bringing UCD Marian back within three points with less than three minutes on the clock, but two vital steals from Michael Bonaparte ensured the win for Templeogue. MVP Lorcan Murphy top-scored on 23 points as Templeogue hung on to defeat their South Dublin rivals.
