It was close to third and fourth places with DVC (Dublin Volleyball Club) on a 6-4 record with 27 points and Ballymun Patriots Eagles (the Ballymun 2nds team) on 5-5 and 26 points. NUIG Alliance, the University side from Galway finished on 4-6 and 19 points, with Garda in sixth with nine points.

Report

East Coast Cruisers from Greystones in Co. Wicklow lived up to their name in the Volleyball association of Ireland Premier-32 Women League in 2001-02 winning all 14 games, dropping only 3 sets all year.

Northside finished second with 12 wins and 38 Points, four points behind the Wicklow side, but were no match in the deciding games between the two sides, although that was no reflection on the Dublin team as the East Coast Cruisers of the late 1990s and early 2000s were one of the best Women’s Volleyball teams of all-time in the VAI Leagues.

Report

The Volleyball Association of Ireland was rebranded Volleyball Ireland in 2017, and the Division 2 Women (Division or Level 3 in Ireland) was won in 2017-18 by Munster Thunder who dropped only the one set on the way to a 10 wins from 10 games, 30 point season.

There was widespread change in the composition of the Division for 2018-19 with some new teams and some teams being promoted to Division 1 and replaced in Division 2 by relegated teams. Santry won the Division that year, winning all 10 games also en route to a 30-point season, although not in as convincing style, as they dropped 12 sets in total, nonetheless it was still a remarkable feat.#

For 2019-20 the Division jumped to 9 teams from 6, as expansion in the regions brought in Kilkenny Spartans VC and Longford Smashers from Leinster, and the addtion of a second Munster Thunder team (the first team of the Limerick side played in the Premier). The season was cut short, however, due to the ongoing COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic, which brought the cancellation of all sporting activity. The Naas Cobras were out in front with 37 points from 13 matches (12 wins and one loss), 7 ahead of Munster Thunder’s seconds team in second place when the league finished.
