Report

Kulosaari Roosters won Finland’s NFL Europe Schools Flag Football Championship in 2001, defeating Kaarela 32-21 in an exciting final. Karela were looking to overcome a 26-21 deficit with a couple of minutes to go, battling to the Kulosaari 7-yard line, but there they threw an interception in the endzone which was returned by the Roosters defense all the way back to the Kaarela endzone for the victory. Kulosaari now went on to represent Finland in the EFAF (European Federation of American Football) Group Championship against SHS Graz Air Force of Austria and Paris AS Flag of France. The winners of the EFAF Group progess to the World Flag Football Championships to be held in the German city of Berlin during Kinderfest – the Youth Festival – from 24th-27th August 2001.

The word Roost or Rooster comes from the Old English word for “To Come Back Home” or “To Sleep” meaning a Roosting Bird. It is also found in Old Norse as well as Manx, which comes from From Old Irish rúsc, from Proto-Celtic *ruskos, meaning Peel, Rind or Bark. [Reference: See 3]

Report

Team USA represented by Flag Magazine USA won the Flag Oceane in 2001, defeating USA Air Force base team Ramstein Knights (Based in Germany) 34-18 in the Final of the Senior Competition. Le Plessis-Robinson Mousquetaires 2 (France) came third and Klosterneuberg Indians fourth of the 20 teams in the section. France’s Sannois Gaulois, named after the old Celtic name for the people living in France before the Roman conquest came 12th.

About Flag Oceane

Flag Oceane was organised by Le Havre Salamandres in Normandie, France every Summer from 1999 to 2008, becoming the biggest Flag Football competition in Europe during that time. Teams came from USA, Mexico, Canada, Israel, Ausrtria, Ukraine, England, Scotland, Denmark, Germany and Netherlands to compete in Senior, Hopeful and Leisure Open, Women’s, Cadets, Minime and Benjamins categories.

Scotland’s Grangemouth Broncos failed to find the form which saw them win the NFL UK Schools Flag Football Championships, when they lost all three matches in the NFL Europe Schools Flag Football Championships in 2002. They narrowly lost the opening game 43-38 to Spain’s Pere Vives Vich, and then lost 38-18 to hosts Dusseldorf Black Hawk and 45-21 to Leonardo Lightning of Netherlands when a win could have seen them through on head-to-head points difference.

Dusseldorf Black Hawk won the NFL Europe Group and met EFAF Group Champions Austria’s Air Force Graz in the Final, with the Austrians coming out on top 42-18. Air Force Graz were convincing winners of the tournament having depatched AS Paris Flag 26-22 in their opening match before getting into their stride with huge 60 plus points wins over Sondervanfskloen of Denmark and Kulosaari Roosters of Finland to rech the Final. The two finalists qualified for the NFL Schools Flag Football World Championships along with third placed Leonardo Lightning who won 46-40 in overtime in the third placed playoff match against AS Paris Flag.

Grangemouth is Scotland’s biggest port, having been founded as the finish point of the Clyde-Forth Canal. Located near Falkirk in East Scotland, it is famous also for the art-statues of the two Kelpies, mythological Horses which can take Human form from Celtic Folklore. The artist who created the two giant artworks at the entrance to thde Helix Park, however, took ins;piration more from the two work horses which drew each canal boat. Scotland was colonised by Gaelic-speakers from Ireland in 500 AD, although Gaelic is now only widely spoken in the Highlands and Western Isles.

Flag Football Big Bowl XI Saturday Results 2017 [Reference: 5]

Report

Sean Douglas of Dublin Bay Raptors and Ireland played for NP Flag from Pennsylvania in the Big Bowl XI 2017 in Walldorf Germany, where they finished 5th out of 48 in the Mixed Competition. NP Flag won all five of their group games before defeating LondoN rebels 27-7 in the Last 16 and then losing to London Barbarians 12-20 in the Quater-Finals. After two more wins (21-19 over London Ex-Pads and 33-14 Novo Mesto Knights) they finished fifth. The overall winners were Boston MassFlag who defeated Cophenhagen 33-14 in the Final.
