Recap

Louisiana Swashbucklers failed at the final hurdle for the second straight year in their quest to add a fourth Championship Title in team history. They then appeared in both the 2009 and 2010 Southern Indoor Football League Championship games, winning the SIFL title in 2009 [Reference: 3], but losing 13-68 to Columbus Lions in the 2010 Championship Game. [References: 2]

It was Albany’s first appearance in a Championship Game and they won by defeating both the 2009 SIFL Champions (Columbus Lions) and 2009 SIFL Champions (Louisiana Swashbucklers) in the Playoffs. [References: 2-3]

[References: 1-2]

Playoffs (30 July 2022)

With homefield advantage Albany Empire squeezed by Jacksonville Sharks 68-67 in a high scoring encounter to advance to the NAL Championship Game where they were to meet Carolina Cobras who won 65-51 versus Columbus Lions in a similar high-scoring game at Greensboro, North Carolina.

NAL Championship (13 August 2022)

Albany Empire won the 2022 NAL Championship in blistering fashion, reeling off 41 unanswered points after Carolina Cobras took a 7-6 lead. Albany quarterback Sam Castronova fired six touchdown passes at the appropriately-named MVP Arena in New York State to make the Empire back-to-back NAL Champions. Even though Albany were 47-7 up after three quarters the never-say-die Cobras punched back with a Zack Brown Fumble Recovery in the Endzone and a 38-yard Adam Smith Touchdown catch but time ran out for the Cobras as the Empire prevailed 47-20 thanks to a 3-yard TD run by Castronova less than two minuters into the game; a catch from Aaron Wascha for a 13-7 Albany lead after a 3-yard Kendrick Ings TD pass; Aaron Wascha scored a second TD catch and another TD pass from Castronova as well as a 10-yard Darius Prince TD put Albany 34-7 ahead. Two more TD passes by Castronova for Albany put the game beyond doubt: to Marquel Wade a lineman Cornelius Lewis to give the Empire an unassailable 47-7 lead at the end of the third quarter. 2022 National Arena League Preview

After a reduced schedule of 8 games in 2021 due to Covid-19 concerns, the National Arena League has scheduled a full 14-week schedule with each team playing 12 games for 2022. Jersey Flight have left the league after finishing 2-6 in 2021 and have been replaced by San Antonio Gunslingers, giving the NAL a footprint in Texas. Albany Empire shall be defending the title they won in 2021 with a 7-1 record and two 2-Touchdown victories in the playoffs: 79-62 versus Columbus Lions in the Championship Game after a 55-41 defeat of Carolina Cobras in the Semi-Finals. With four of the six teams playing in the postseason playoffs, each team shall fancy their chances of making it beyond the regular season, with San Antonio and Jacksonville Sharks (2-6 in 2021) targetting the playoff places won by Orlando Predators (4-4 in 2021) and Carolina Cobras (3-5 in 2021). Columbus Lions (6-2 in 2021) and Albany Empire should be favourites to reach the playoffs again.

ABOUT THE NAL

The National Arena Football is a AAA (Third Level) American Football League based primarily in the Northeastern & Southern States of the USA. It is one of 2 AAA Arena Indoor Football Leagues in the USA, the other being the Indoor Football League (Midwest and West).

ABOUT ARENA / INDOOR FOOTBALL

Indoor (also known as Arena) Football plays an 8 v 8 version of American Football on a converted Ice Hockey Rink 50-yards long with 2 10 -yard endzones. Teams have 5 downs (attempts) to score or the ball is turned over – 3 of which must be passing plays. It is therefore a higher scoring game than standard 11 v 11 American Football. The main difference between Arena Football and Indoor Football is that there is no rebound net either side of the goalposts in Indoor Football. Arena Football rules allow the ball stay in play when it comas back off the rebound nets.

Report

Champions Indoor Football started its 2021 schedule with a reduced roster of teams due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. West Texas Warbirds, Oklahoma Flying Aces and Amarillo Venom were all victims of the virus and failed to start the season. This left 6 teams, playing Inter-Conference games for the first two weeks, followed by CIF Conference matches.

Weeks 1-4 27 March -17 April 2021

After 4 weeks Salina Liberty, Sioux City Bandits and Dodge City Law were all undefeated in CIF play, although Dodge City Law had only played the one match – a 20-18 victory over Wyoming Mustangs in Week 3. Of the other three teams Wyoming Mustangs had picked up two Inter-Conference victories and Omaha Beef one, though both of those teams and Wichita Force were 0-2 in CIF play.

Week 5-6 22 April- 2 May 2021

By the first week in May Salina Liberty had defeated the other top two team Sioux City Bandits 53-24 on the 24th of April to claim sole ownership of top spot after Dodge City Law had lost 44-56 to Wyoming Mustangs two days previously. Sioux City Bandits then lost another match on 2nd May to the previously winless Omaha Beef, thus opening up the mid-table positions.

Week 7 8-9 May 2021

Salina Liberty continued their winning ways with a 62-34 victory at Dodge City Law. Wichita Force gained the first League win with a 49-40 victory at home to Sioux City Bandits and Omaha Beef moved into second in the standings with a 49-21 win at Wyoming Mustangs.

Week 8 15 May 2021

Wichita Force continued their new-found winning ways with a 41-32 victory at Omaha Beef placing them above the Beef on head-to-head, while Salina Liberty maintained their 100% record with a 51-40 win at Sioux City Bandits.

About the CIF

The Champions Indoor Football is a AA (Third Level) American Football League based primarily in the Texas and Prairie States of the Mid-West. It is one of 4 AA Indoor Football Leagues in the USA, the others in the Eastern Seaboard( American Arena League), West (American West Football Conference) and Southwest & Mexico (Super 8 Football League)

Report

The Champions Professional Indoor Football League was created on August 10, 2012, when representatives from six cities met in Council Bluffs, IA, with the intention of forming an Indoor American Football League. The teams were Sioux City Bandits (IA), Lincoln Haymakers (NA), Wichita Wild (KS), Oklahoma Defenders (OA), Kansas City Renegades (MI) and MidMissouri Outlaws (Sedalia, MI). They were joined for their first season by Omaha Beef (NA), Salina Bombers (KS), Bloomington Edge (IS) and Kansas Koyotes (Topeka, KS). The League was based entirely within the Prairie States and Southwestern Mid-West.

Wichita Wild defeated Salina Bombers 37-24 to win the Championship Game in 2013 and in the 2014 title game they defeated Sioux City Bandits 46-41. The League lost MidMissouri Outlaws and Kansas City Renegades after the 2013 season, but gained a new team in Dodge City, nicknamed the Law.

The League merged with teams from the Lone Star Football League in 2015, becoming Champions Indoor Football.

Report

The National Passball League was an Arena-style American Football League in the England, played on a smaller field than a regular American Football field, and with a focus on passing (Passball is played on a 40-yard field with two 8-yard endzones, with five downs or attempts to score, three of which must be passing plays, before the ball is turned over). It is seven-a-side.

Cannock Chase Giants won the Eastern Conference title ahead of Broncos, whilst Cambridge pulled out after two games. In the Southern Conference, Thunderbolts won the Conference title, with London Gators qualifying for the playoffs in second place, and Exiles finishing in third.

The Thunderbolts and London Gators won through to the Final, where the Thunderbolts confirmed their dominance all season, with a 41-15 victory. Thames Valley Chargers star Ez Charles scored three touchdowns, and a three-point pass in the second quarter to put the ‘Bolts in a commanding lead at the half which they never relinquished.

Charles scored on a 31 yard run before finding Kenroy Barnett and Andy Tilbury with 23-yard and 16-yard TD Passes. Tibury got a hat-trick of his own, with a 22-yard TD Pass from Joe Greenidge in the first quarter, and a 32-yard Interception Return to finish off the scoring. Andy Tait linked up with Andy Falconer for two TD Passes for some consolation for the London Gators.

About the National Gridiron League

The National Gridiron League is an American Arena Football League scheduled to begin play in May 2020. It has 12 teams situated in the South and Midwest.

About Arena / Indoor Football

Indoor Football, also known as Arena Football was developed in 1986 as an 8v8 form of Indoor American Football. After an initial few seasons where the game was developed with a 4 team league, a full seasons League with eventually over a dozen teams was developed in the 1990 which was considered by the Wall Street Journal to be a fifth major.

The Arena Football League over-expanded in the 2000s with a Minor League, and its importance (and number of teams) waned since it first experienced financial diffulties  in 2009, and it ceased operations after the 2019 season due to the legacy debt incurred.

There is now, however, Indoor Football Leagues all over America, all of which would now be considered Minor League or Semi-Pro (AAA, AA, or even A)

Indoor Football is played on a 50-yard field with two 8-yard endzones, and teams have 5 downs (attempts) to reach the endzone or the ball is turned over. 3 of those downs must be passing plays, making Indoor Football highly explosive and high scoring.

The main difference between Arena Football & Indoor Football is the rebound nets either side of the goalposts in Arena Football, which is the only part of the original patent given to the Arena Football League in 1989, that a subsequent ruling in 1998 ruled was copyright, the rest being Football already in other leagues.

It is one of 4 AA Indoor Football Leagues in the USA, the others in the Eastern Seaboard( American Arena League), West (American West Football Conference) and Southwest & Mexico (Super 8 Football League)
