History: The Drogheda Lightning were formed as a 8v8 Development League team in 2011 before making the step up to the Irish American Football League 1 Conference in 2013. In 2011 they finished with a 2-3 Wins-Losses record, and in 2012 a 4-3-1 record, while also playing a match against Trim Bulldogs at Moneygall GAA grounds, Co. Offaly as part of the American Festival on 4th July 2012. Moneygall is famous as being the home village of US President Barack Obama’s Irish ancestors before their flight to America.

Note: * There was no clear champion in 2012, Drogheda Lightning finished 4-3-1, Belfast Trojans 2ns 4-0-1, Carrickfergus Knights 4-1-0, and Trim Bulldogs 3-4-0, although the Trim Bulldogs also defeated Drogheda Lightning in a festival match in Moneygall, Co. Offaly, which did not count in the standings.
