Futbol Americano Mexico (FAM) was started in 2018, playing its first season in 2019, as a rival to the Liga Futbol Americano Profesional (LFA) in Mexico. It was the first league other than the NFL to play by NFL rules, with the exception of overtime, which is by NCAA rules. All other leagues outside of America, bar the Canadian Football League (which has its own rules) are played under NCAA rules. [Ref: 4]
Pioneros de Queretaro won the first FAM Final, defeating Centauros de Ciudad Juarez 16-0. Pioneros thus won what was essentially a promotion to the ranks of the LFA for 2020. The second season was suspended due to the COVID-19 virus outbreak after the fourth of seven rounds of matches on 18 March 2020. Tequileros de Jalisco and Caudillos de Chihuahua were leading the two divisions at the time of the cessation.
