Prior to the advent of the weekly All-Ireland EY Hockey League in 2015, the Irish Hockey League featured the top 12 teams from the four Provincial Leagues and was played at the end of the season in two groups of six with Semi-Finals and Final.
In 2009-10 Sandymount’s Railway Union beat Cork Harlequins 4-0 in the Final, and this was followed by a win for Belfast’s Pegasus in 2010-11, 4-1 over Hermes. Railway union would again win the title in 2011-12 defeating Loreto 1-0, repeating the feat the following year, also against Loreto. In 2014-15, the last year before the weekly All-Ireland league was introduced, Loreto of Rathfarnham would make up for earlier disappointments, defeating Pegasus in the Final.
