25 August 2002 – Carrickfergus Knights 6 Team Canada 34 – Carrickfergus Knights put in a splendid performance against Team Canada, an elite team traveling with 47 Under 22 College and High School players from 20 different schools. Carrickfergus Knights had several First Downs in the first quarter, mostly gained through the air with passes from Stephen McDowell to Paul McKillop and Ian McIlroy, however it was Team Canada who scored first through a 24 yard Touchdown run by Ashley Heinz. In the second quarter Dan Gooding also scored on a 10 yard run to put the visitors 14-0 up at the half after Ricky Postma added the 2 extra point conversion.
The third quarter saw Team Canada extend their lead with another Dan Gooding run, this time the Canadian went in from 7 yards out. The Carrickfergus Knights defense was a lot stronger in the second half, letting in only one more TD, another Ashley Heinz effort, breaking free on a long run, after Mike Smith returned a fumble 48 yards to the endzone, which was converted for two points again by Ricky Postma. With the score now 34-0 after the second of Heinz’s efforts, Carrickfergus put together a 75-yard scoring drive, with a couple of good runs by Pete Watt capped off by a Paul McKillop consolation 9 yard Touchdown Pass from Stephen McDowell. The Knights defense even managed to sack the Team Canada Quarterback in the second half, with Linebacker Spencer McDowell tackling the Canadian playcaller for a loss.
