Irish American Football League teams graduated to playing National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III teams in 2004, showing a marked improvement on their first outings in the 1980s and 1990s against American opposition.
The first matches were played between the Ireland National Team and the John Carroll Blue Streaks and Adrian College Bulldogs from Ohio and Michigan respectively, with Ireland losing by approximately 50 points each time. [1][2]
