The Irish-American Flag Football Classic was held every 4th July, Independence Day, in the Ambassadors Residence, Phoenix Park, Dublin, between the Dublin 8s, representing the American Embassy in Dublin 8, and the Phoenix Park Pirates, represesenting the Ambassadors Residence in Phoenix Park. [1][2][3][4][5]

Dan Rooney, Irish-American owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, coached one of the teams and the game featured top GAA players, with the game being played in front of an invited audience in temporary stands buillt for the purpose.[1][2][3][4][5]
