At the Halfway Stage in the Irish Water Polo Association National League Division 1 Women in 2008-09 Cathal Brugha from Belfast were out in front with a maximum 15 points from 5 games. Half Moon from Sandymount in Dublin were second, also on 15 points but having played a game more, a 6-7 loss to St. Vincent’s (Glasnevin, Dublin) who were third with 9 points from 5 games, two losses coming against Cathal Brugha and Donegall Diamonds, another Belfast team. Donegall Diamonds had 12 points from 7 matches, with losses to Cathal Brugha (twice) and Half Moon meaning they were in need of other results going their way to have a chance of winning the title.
