Report

The Northern Ireland Junior American League was a Coed (Mixed) Two-Touch American Football League for 14-18 year olds in Northern Ireland that was formed in 1988, and became a Junior Kitted League in 1991. Two-Touch is a version of Flag Football that was popular among Junior sides in Ireland and Britain in the late 1980s before Flags were brought in from America. The ball carrier is tackled by placing two hands on him or her. The Kitted League was played under DV8 rules – 8v8 Contact, Tackle American Football

The 1991 NIJAL League was won by the Main Street Spartans (Junior side of the Belfast Spartans) 33-26 in a thriller over Ballymena Wolfhounds, played at Musgrave Park, Belfast. Niall Neeson, the Wolfhounds Quarterback attempted a deep throw in the dying seconds, with the Spartans leading 33-26, but the pass was intercepted, ending the game.
