Leicester Wildcats Women’s American Football Team opened their 1988 season with a 24-8 victory over St. Alban’s Thunderbirds at Butts Stadium, Coventry on 30th July 1988.

The Thunderbirds scored first on a Dale Boyce rushing TD which was converted for two points to put St. Alban’s 8-0 up, however, Leicester stormed back with two touchdowns by Michelle Allcot, the second of which was converted for two points by the Irish-named Suzanne Mullins. Melanie Woodcock added another rushing touchdown as well as a two point conversion to make the score 22-8 in favour of the Wildcats at halftime.

The only score of the second half was Stephanie Pearce’s safety for the Leicester Wildcats which left the Final Score 24-8 to the Wildcats. Leicester’s Denise Carter picked up the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award.
