Recap
Saskatoon Valkyries sailed through the Western Women’s Canadian Football League 2022 season, winning the Prairie Conference on a 4-0 record, before defeating Edmonton Storm (3-1, Western Conference #2 seed) 52-0 in the Crossover Semi-Finals and then triumphing 36-6 over Manitoba Fearless (3-1, Prairie Conference #2 seed) in the WWCFL Final. The title was Saskatoon Valkyrie’s seventh overall and first since 2019 due to the two-year enforced shutdown of the league due to COVID-19. [References: S1]
About the WWCFL 2022 Season
The 2022 Western Women’s Canadian Football League (WWCFL) season was the 10th season of the league, having been founded in 2011 (2020 and 2021 seasons were cancelled due to COVID-19). The Gridiron Football League for Women is based in the Western Canada Provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. The Prairie Conference for 2022 consisted of Regina Riot and Saskatoon Valkyries from Saskatchewan and Winnipeg Wolfpack and Manitoba Fearless (Winnipeg) from Manitoba. The Western Conference consisted of the Alberta teams Calgary Rage, Edmonton Storm and Lethbridge Steel. Northern Anarchy (Western Conference) were the only team to not return after the enforced COVID-19 shutdown of the league. The two Conferences each played a four-game regular season entirely within their own Conference before the playoffs. The Playoffs were Crossover between Conferences from the Semi-Finals (Final four).
