Report
The Dublin Celts were American Football Ireland’s first official team, founded in 1984, after an advertisement was placed in the Evening Herald [Reference: 2]. About two dozen Regulars met at the Phoenix Park in Dublin for an American Football practice session and a short game [Reference: 1], presumably wearing their two different shirt colours: Green and White.
The game was new to Ireland following the influence of the UK’s Channel 4 Sunday evening programmes showing games from the United States of America. The Irish Times of 16th March 1985 reported there were apparently the start of teams in Coleraine, Co. Derry; and Blanchardstown, Foxrock and University College Dublin, all Co. Dublin. [Reference: 1]
