Season Report

The Erris (Mayo) Rams who split their home games between Drum, Belmullet and Galway-Mayo IT in Castlebar, Co. Mayo finished their inaugural season in the Irish American Football Association DV8 Development League with two wins and six losses. Both wins came against the Midlands Soldiers, based in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, including their home opener which they won 47-0.

The Rams were founded by Chicago-native Michael Kelly, who returned to his roots in Co. Mayo, with his son Andrew, who had played High School in Chicago and missed it in Mayo. Andrew played Quarterback and was backed-up by fellow American-born players, Billy Halloran, from Long Island, New York, who had married an Irish girl from Co. Mayo, 16-year-old Las Vegas-born Chris Cooper who had played High School Football in Oklahoma, and Player-Coach Brian Wilson, who played High School in Washington State on the West Coast of America.

Along with these experienced players in the 8-a-side team were a host of new recruits to the game, as well as Ballinrobe Rugby Player James McTigue, and Canadian Jean-Francois Brussard, who had played Canadian Football (a close relative of American Football) in Canada.
