National Football League Preseason American Bowls in Canada 1988-Present [Reference: 1-2]
Note: *Not designated an American Bowl.
Report
As part of its planned television expansion overseas, the National Football League (USA) played a series of International Preseason Games in Canada approximately once every two years from 1988 to 1998. Called the American Bowl (there were other American Bowl games in Europe, Mexico, Japan and Australia) the series usually pitted teams close to Canada against each other, the series returened in 2008 and 2010 and again in 2019, but were not called the American Bowl.
Buffalo Bills have appeared in this preseason series four times (the city is closest to Toronto on the US side of the border), and Green Bay Packers, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers twice each.
