Recap
The first three Maritime Bowls were won by three different teams – Halifax Shockers (Nova Scotia) in 2002, Saint John Wanderers (New Brunswick) in 2003 and Moncton Marshals (New Brunswick) in 2004. Thereafter a number of Dynasties took home the Terry McIntyre Cup – Saint John Wanderers in 2005 to 2006, Riverview Mustangs (New Brunswick) 2007 to 2009, and then Moncton Mustangs in 2010. There was no Champion in 2011 as the winner failed to pay their dues and then in 2012 Halifax Shockers won their second McIntyre Cup. Saint John Wanderers then won four straight from 2013 to 2016 before Moncton Mustangs won again in 2017. Saint John Wanderers won the Maritime Bowl back in 2018 and then Moncton Mustangs again won the Maritime Bowl for the McIntyre Cup in 2019. There was no League in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of Irish interest is the Cup awarded to the winners of the Maritime Bowl is named after Terry McIntyre, one of the founders of the New Brunswick Senior Football League. McIntyre is an Irish name. Also of Interest to those reading in Ireland is that the home of Saint John Wanderers is Shamrock Park, and it is here that the Maritime Bowl was played in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 with Saint John Wanderers the team with Home Field advantage due to being Regular Season Champions.
About the Maritime Football League and the McIntyre Cup
The McIntyre Cup was first played in 2002 between the winners of the New Brunswick Senior Football League and the Champions of the Nova Scotia Senior Football League. Terry McIntyre, one of the founders of the New Brunswick Senior Football League donated a Trophy, named the McIntyre Cup, which has been awarded annually to the Champions of the Maritime Bowl, the Championship Game of the Maritime Football League since 2005. The Maritime Football League was formed in 2005 by former members of the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia Senior Football Leagues.
