Report

The Munster Warriors were formed in 2009 when the Cork Druids who had played in the B League in 2008 merged with an emerging Limerick team. They joined the B League their first season and won all 12 matches winning the B League Pennant (the result of the Final is currently unknown). After promotion to the A League in 2010 where they won 4 of 15 matches they went on to Qualify for the Playoffs in both 2011 and 2012, the latter year their best ever in the A League when they finished second with a 9-6 Wins-Losses record. The team folded after a disappointing 2013 season where they only won 3 of their matches. The Warriors played their home games in Cork in 2009, Limerick 2010 and 2011 and then had to make the long journey up to Dublin for all their games in 2012 and 2013.

Note: Known simply as “Hurricanes” in the Irish Baseball League (1999-2005)

Report

Dublin City Hurricanes are one of Baseball Ireland’s oldest and most successful teams, having been founded in the first season of the Irish Baseball League after the first player draft took place (second season of 1998). They won the League Pennant in 1997, 2003, 2004 when there were no Playoffs and in 2005 won both the League Pennant and Playoffs defeating Spartans in the Final. From 2006 to 2014 they won the A League Pennant 5 times but lost in the Playoff Final to Dublin Spartans (4 times) and Greystones Mariners (2014) – The Dublin Spartans won a remarkable 9 Championships in succession and Dublin City Hurricanes were unlucky to have come up against them during this run.

Breaking the run in 2015 they finally won the Playoffs under the new Baseball Ireland A League and B League system with a sweep of Greystones Mariners in the Final. This started a run of 4 League Pennant and Playoff Championships won in a row from 2015 to 2018 before a new duo of Ashbourne Giants and Greystones Mariners took over from the old dynastic duo of Dublin Spartans and Dublin City Hurricanes. Dublin City Hurricanes slipped to 3rd and 4th in the Standings in 2019 and 2020.
