Report

____________________________________________________________________

From 2011 until 2014, before opening of the Ashbourne International Baseball Centre, the O’Malley Fields in Corkagh Park, Clondalkin were the scene of a series of matches between Ireland, a Presidents 9 made up of players from a non-Irish background in the Irish Baseball League and the Rota Blue Devils, a team from a United States Naval Base in Rota, Spain.. On a couple of occasions there was also another invited team.

Ireland split the series with the Blue Devils (2-2) and the Presidents 9 (1-1) in 2011 [2] , in 2012 finished runners-up to Rota Blue Devils. and in 2013 won all three group games, before defeating Los Barbaros 13-7 in the Final.[5]

Report

Ireland came the closest they have ever come to Qualifying for the A-Pool in the European Championships, reaching the Final, only to lose to Croatia. Their only previous loss was a 2-1 reverse to the same country in the Group Stage. Ireland’s fine performance throughout included a 4-1 win over hosts Belgium.
