Game Day 1 (National Sports Campus) 25 January 2014

UCD 7 NUI Galway 1: The National Sports Campus in Blanchardstown was the venue for the Opening Game Day of the 2014 Irish Lacrosse League. UCD were comfortable winners over NUI Galway by a scoreline of 7-1, although Tim Segal in the Galway goal kept them in the match which was closer than the scoreline suggests. All of UCD’s goals came in the first three quarters, as Galway pulled one back in the last through Jake Royle. Andrew Murphy top-scored for UCD with two goals.[3]

Dublin Avengers 17 Dublin Bay Prawns 8: Calvin Craig scored seven goals for Dublin Avengers in their derby match with Dublin Bay Prawns. Prawns put up a fourth quarter comeback, with Martin Scanlon netting four goals in total, but the Avengers ran out winners by a nine goal margin, 17-8.[3]

Game Day 2

UCD 7 Dublin Avengers 12: Game Day 2 opened with a repeat of the Newtownards Cup Final between Avengers and UCD. The angers defence started slow and UCD went into a commanding 4-1 lead early on, however, the Avengers steadied and rattled off six unanswered goals to go in 7-4 up at the half. The second half saw more offensive fire-power from Dublin with Danny Jones in goal for UCD doing a fine job keeping the score respectable. UCD managed three of their own in the second half, but in the end Avengers ran out 12-7 winners, with UCD picking up a bonus point. Calvin Craig was again on outstanding form for Dublin Avengers, scoring six goals, while Ciaran Boylan netted four for UCD.[4]

NUI Galway 1 Dublin Bay Prawns 6: The second match of the day saw Galway again falling behind to a more experienced team, before claiming a late consolation goal. Mark Colgan scored three for the Prawns and Ryan Doran scored Galway’s sole effort. The win put Prawns just a point behind UCd as the Avengers went out in front with a second win.[4]

Game Day 3 (Galway) 1 March 2014

UCD 9 Dublin Bay Parwns 6: Galway were the hosts for the third Game Day as UCD defeated Dublin Bay Prawns 9-6 in the battle for second place. UCD took an early three goal lead, and thereafter goals were traded back anfd forth, however, the Prawns were unable to claw back those three goals. Cian rushe and Sean Shaughnessy top-scored for UCD with three goals apiece, while Paul Murran netted three of his own for the Prawns.[5]

NUI Galway 2 Dublin Avengers 18: The second game of the day saw Dublin Avengers run out easy 18-2 winners over the hosts. Sean Gibson scored a season-high eight goals for the Avengers.[5]

Game Day 4 (Dublin Avengers) March 2014

Dublin Avengers 14 Dublin Bay Prawns 7: Dublin Avengers continued their winning streak, racing into a three-goal lead against the Prawns. The Prawns would claw two back by the end of the first quarter, but the second quarter was nearly all Avengers as they went into the half-time break 8-3 in front. The Prawns matched the Avengers goal-for-goal in the third, leaving it 10-5 going into the final quarter, but once again the Avengers high-powered offence was able to pull away as they ran out 14-7 winners.[6]

UCD 12 NUI Galway 6: The students were up next and UCD started the brighter, going 3-1 up early on, Stephen Lee-Cheong would again be on the scoresheet for Galway, pulling one back just before the end of the first quarter. UCD went into overdrive in the seecond quarter, however, netting five more before half time. Ryan Doran would strike back for Galway in the third, scoring two goals, however, it was not enough as UCD ran out 12-6 winners.[6]

Game Day 6, 5 April 2014

Dublin Avengers 19 NUI Galway 1: The Final Game Day saw the Avengers needing only a win to seal the title and they did so in impressive fashion, running out easy 19-1 winners over the students from Galway. the result was never in doubt as Sean Gibson scored five goals and one assist to end up Leading scorer, and rookie Drew Wichmann set an all-time ILL record with seven assists in one game. This also set a new single-season assist record at 13 goals. Michael Kennedy scored four and Richard Blanc three as the Avengers romped to the title. Ryan Doran was again Galway’s only scorer.[7]

UCD 9 Dublin Bay Prawns 7: UCD Needed a win and to score a next-to-impossible 46 goals to finish ahead of the Avengers, and while they would finish winners, it was not to be enough. The Prawns would take a 4-2 lead into half-time as Prawns’ goalie Kevin Quinn became the first goalie to score in ILL history. UCD came back firing on all cylinders i the second half, however, and would run out 9-7 winners. ‘Jeff 23’ would score four for UCD and Tadhg Bolger three, while Martin Scanlon would be the Prawns top scorer on two goals.[7]
