Recap
Former NCAA Division III star Idris McClain of Amherst College in Massachusetts received the MVP (Most Valuable Player) Award as Shanghai Titans dominated in a 28-6 triumph over Shanghai Nighthawks to capture the Titans first ever American Football League of China Championship at Luwan Stadium in Shanghai.
McClain played on both sides of the ball, catching four passes for 48 yards, leading all receivers, and contributing 6 tackles and a Quarterback Sack on Defense. Runningback Eason Chen ran 14 times for 107 yards and a Touchdown, and Jimmy Liu added a 1 yard Touchdown in the third quarter as the Titans built up a 20-0 lead going into the Final quarter.
The Titans had gone ahead early on Gavin Ku’s pass to Cam Shubert who ran the ball in a catch-and-run for a 13 yard Touchdown to give Shanghai Titans the lead in the first Quarter, and after a scoreless second quarter and the two Titans Rushing TD;s in the third it looked all over. The Shanghai Nighthawks however refused to give up and Tianshou Zhang ran the ball into the endzone from three yards out to cut the deficit to 20-6.
Arthur Wu recovered Jackson Chen’s onside kick for the Nighthawks giving them another chance to cut the deficit. McClain, however, on the very next play, corralled Runningback Cook Fan in the backfield, aided by Defensive Tackle David Hong who forced a fumble which was recovered by Derek Shackshire, and the Titans breathed a sigh of relief. Four plays later Yu re-entered the game at Quarterback, and broke three tackles on the right as he ran 29 yards to the endzone to give the Titans a 28-6 lead which ended the game.
