Hutt Valley Spartans became back-to-back Wellington Champions in 2019, after winning the Capital Bowl 20-14 in triple overtime. In the first period of overtime neither side reached the endzone, and then in the second period both the Spartans and Wellington Wolves managed to do so, which left a third period necessary.
After a massive redline stand (right in front of their own endzone) the Spartans managed to catch the Wolves offside, giving them a free play from 15 yards out. a pitch out out right to their running back with some great blocking sawthem walk it into the endzone for the winning touchdown.
Three teams had entered the American Football Wellington season, with the Wolves finishing out on top, the Hutt Valley Spartans in second on 3-3 (wins-Losses) and Portirua Warriors in third.
