Recap
In 2001 the Intrepid American with the Irish name, Tom Kelly, who had previously tried unsuccessfully to start an American Football League in USSR in 1979, approached the American University of Kyrgyzstan with regards setting up an American Football team. The Central Asian American Football Association (CAAFA) was born the following April when the AUK met KIMEP from Almaty in Kazakhstan in a game of Flag Football.
Following a series of friendly games between a new team in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan: BARS Leopards and KIMEP Titans, as well as a Challenge Game between two teams of BARS Leopards, another team was founded in Bishkek: Golden Eagles, thus laying the foundations for the Bishkek Challenge Games between BARS Leopards and Bishkek Golden Eagles. In Autumn 2008 after two series of Spring Games between the Leopards and Golden Eagles with each winning a game, a Tournament was organised including a third Bishkek team: KNU Kyrgyzstan National University. The Tournament, played over Labour Weekend, was won by KNU after victories over the Golden Eagles and Leopards and was the first ever Tournament for American Football in Kyrgyzstan.
