Report

The Goal Celebrity Flag Football Match was a match involving celebrities from RTE such as Pat Kenny, as well as Irish International Rugby Players such as Tony Ward. There were two teams in the main match – the GOAL Heroes (GOAL is an Irish International Development Organisation) and the RTE Heroes (RTE – Radio Teilifis Eireann – is the Irish National Broadcaster). It was played in aid of Charity for Developing Countries. There was also a Women’s match.

In 1989 RTE and Goal Stars tied the match 3-3.

It was played in conjunction with a fully kitted American Football match – usually between the Dublin Celts and Northern Irish teams, which was sponsored by Jack Daniels whiskey and known as the Jack Daniels Summer Bowl.

More scores in the second half, including a juggling catch with one foot in the endzone by Christopher Barry Bartlett-Legge saw the Gators win 32-6.
