About LEXFA

LEXFA – Lega Extrema de Football Americano – is the biggest Arena / Indoor Football League in the World. It comprises four to five divisions of Arena Indoor Football teams in Mexico, with the Divisions based on level of play as in Soccer rather than Geographical as in American and Canadian Football.

Arena, also known as Indoor Football is an 8v8 version of American Football played in converted Ice Hockey rinks or other Arenas with a 50 yard field and two 8 yard endzones. Instead of having 4 downs (attempts) to reach 10 yards or the ball is turned over, Arena Indoor Football employs a five downs to score system of play, with three of those downs having to be passing plays.

About

The American West Football Conference is a AA Indoor American Football League which started playing in the American Northwest in 2019 to fill in the gap in Professional Indoor Football League on the West Coast (San Diego, Arizona & Oakland have teams in the Indoor Football League but that is primarily a Mid-West League). For 2021 it has expanded to include teams in Yakima (Washington State).

Report

On February 11, 1981, James Foster witnessed an Indoor Soccer game at Madison Square Garden, and drew out the outline of an Indoor American Football field on a manilla envelope, using the same basic premise of a football field on a converted Ice Hockey rink. [2]

The first AFL test game was held on 27 April 1986 in Rockford, Illinois between the Rockford Metros and Chicago Politicians , and following positive public response the first “showcase game” in Chicago in front of 8,200 fans on February 27, 1987. [2; 4-5]

The AFL debut season began on 19 June 1987, with four teams: Chicago Bruisers, Denver Dynamite, Pittsburgh Gladiators & Washington Comandos. Denver Dynamite won Arena Bowl I, defeating Pittsburgh Gladiators 45-16 [2]

The second AFL season featued an additional three teams: Los Angeles Cobras, New England Steamrollers & New York Knights, who played only that season. Washington Commandos sat out the season Detroit Drive won Arena Bowl II, 24-13 over Chicago Bruisers. [2]

The third AFL season, in 1989, was a shortened four-game season, with five teams, including the returned Commandos, now playing in Maryland. Detroit again won the Arena Bowl, beating Pittsburgh 39-26. Following the season, the league played two successful exhibition games in Paris (France) & London (England). THE US Patent office granted the league a Patent, making it the first patented, rival-free sports league in history. [2]

the fourth AFL season, saw an expansion of two teams: Albany Firebirds & Dallas Texans, with Chicago dropping out. Detroit Drive won the Arena Bowl for the third year in succession, defeating Dallas 51-27. [2]

A further expansion in 1991, saw teams added in Orlando (Predators) and New Orleans (Night) and Columbus (Thunderbolts), with Pittsburgh relocating to Tampa Bay, becoming the Storm and the Commandos ceasing operation. The league’s expansion into the Southeast would prove enduringly successful, with the Tampa Bay & Orlando franchises remaing in existence right through to the league’s waning years in the late-2010s. Detroit was defeated in the Arena Bowl 48-42 by the Tampa Bay Storm, ending the Drive’s attempts at a four-in-a-row. [2]

In 1992 the league expanded to 12 teams and three divisions, ending the AFL’s formative years, and beginning the AFL’s rise to become what the Wall Street Journal called the fifth Major [2].

Report

The United Arena League was founded in 2020 as a follow on from Supreme Indoor Football in the South of USA. It cancelled its inaugural season due to Coronavirus Pandemic concerns and is scheduled to start its first season on 8th May 2021, featuring three teams: Georgia-lina Lions, Peach State Cats and Palmetto Colts, with Inter-Conference play scheduled against Southern Steam of Eastern Indoor Football and Carolina Predators. Palmetto Colts are based in Palmetto, Florida; Georgia-lina Lions are based in Augusta, Georgia and Peach State Cats are based in Cumming, Georgia.

Peach State Cats opened the season with a 42-26 victory over Georgia-lina Lions. The following week they thrashed the Palmetto Colts 55-0.

About Indoor Football

Indoor Football, also known as Arena Football was developed in 1986 as an 8v8 form of Indoor American Football. After an initial few seasons where the game was developed with a 4 team league, a full seasons League with eventually over a dozen teams was developed in the 1990 which was considered by the Wall Street Journal to be a fifth major.

The Arena Football League over-expanded in the 2000s with a Minor League, and its importance (and number of teams) waned since it first experienced financial diffulties  in 2009, and it ceased operations after the 2019 season due to the legacy debt incurred.

There is now, however, Indoor Football Leagues all over America, all of which would now be considered Minor League or Semi-Pro (AAA, AA, or even A)

Indoor Football is played on a 50-yard field with two 8-yard endzones, and teams have 5 downs (attempts) to reach the endzone or the ball is turned over. 3 of those downs must be passing plays, making Indoor Football highly explosive and high scoring.

Report

Champions Indoor Football started its 2021 schedule with a reduced roster of teams due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. West Texas Warbirds, Oklahoma Flying Aces and Amarillo Venom were all victims of the virus and failed to start the season. This left 6 teams, playing Inter-Conference games for the first two weeks, followed by CIF Conference matches.

Weeks 1-4 27 March -17 April 2021

After 4 weeks Salina Liberty, Sioux City Bandits and Dodge City Law were all undefeated in CIF play, although Dodge City Law had only played the one match – a 20-18 victory over Wyoming Mustangs in Week 3. Of the other three teams Wyoming Mustangs had picked up two Inter-Conference victories and Omaha Beef one, though both of those teams and Wichita Force were 0-2 in CIF play.

Week 5-6 22 April- 2 May 2021

By the first week in May Salina Liberty had defeated the other top two team Sioux City Bandits 53-24 on the 24th of April to claim sole ownership of top spot after Dodge City Law had lost 44-56 to Wyoming Mustangs two days previously. Sioux City Bandits then lost another match on 2nd May to the previously winless Omaha Beef, thus opening up the mid-table positions.

Week 7 8-9 May 2021

Salina Liberty continued their winning ways with a 62-34 victory at Dodge City Law. Wichita Force gained the first League win with a 49-40 victory at home to Sioux City Bandits and Omaha Beef moved into second in the standings with a 49-21 win at Wyoming Mustangs.

Week 8 15 May 2021

Wichita Force continued their new-found winning ways with a 41-32 victory at Omaha Beef placing them above the Beef on head-to-head, while Salina Liberty maintained their 100% record with a 51-40 win at Sioux City Bandits.

About the CIF

The Champions Indoor Football is a AA (Third Level) American Football League based primarily in the Texas and Prairie States of the Mid-West. It is one of 4 AA Indoor Football Leagues in the USA, the others in the Eastern Seaboard( American Arena League), West (American West Football Conference) and Southwest & Mexico (Super 8 Football League)

About Arena / Indoor Football

Indoor (also known as Arena) Football plays an 8 v 8 version of American Football on a converted Ice Hockey Rink 50-yards long with 2 10 -yard endzones. Teams have 5 downs (attempts) to score or the ball is turned over – 3 of which must be passing plays. It is therefore a higher scoring game than standard 11 v 11 American Football. The main difference between Arena Football and Indoor Football is that there is no rebound net either side of the goalposts in Indoor Football. Arena Football rules allow the ball stay in play when it comas back off the rebound nets.

About Fan Controlled Football

The League was a novel idea, giving fans the chance to be a part-owner, and coach of a Professional Arena Indoor Football Team. The FCF was 7v7 Arena style Football with no kicking. Teams start at the 10-yard line and drive to the endzone. The extra point is 1v1 between the Wide Receiver and the Defensive Back. All Games are 1 Hour long with a running clock, and the games were streamed live on twitch where the owner/coaches could vote on the plays of their team, whichever play voted highest was the one that was played.

About LEXFA

LEXFA is an Arena (8v8 Indoor) version of American Football that has become quite popular in Mexico. A team called the Irish, who used the Notre Dame Fighting Irish logo played in a lower division.

About Arena / Indoor Football

This version of American (or Gridiron) Football has become extremely popular in Mexico.

The Arena Football League over-expanded in the 2000s with a Minor League, and its importance (and number of teams) waned since it first experienced financial difficulties  in 2009, and it ceased operations after the 2019 season due to the legacy debt incurred.

There is now, however, Indoor Football Leagues all over America, all of which would now be considered Minor League or Semi-Pro (AAA, AA, or even A) as well as two leagues in Mexico, one of which has 50 teams.

Indoor Football is played on a 50-yard field with two 8-yard endzones, and teams have 5 downs (attempts) to reach the endzone or the ball is turned over. 3 of those downs must be passing plays, making Indoor Football highly explosive and high scoring.

The main difference between Arena Football & Indoor Football is the rebound nets either side of the goalposts in Arena Football, which is the only part of the original patent given to the Arena Football League in 1989, that a subsequent ruling in 1998 ruled was copyright, the rest being Football already in other leagues.
