Report

Tullamore Phoenix repeated as Champions of the DV8 Development League with an excellent 5-1 record, only losing to Carrickfergus Knights 2nds on the last day of the season. The Knights and Craigavon Cowboys 2nds teams both won all their games, but only played a half schedule.

Drogheda Lightning managed two wins against fellow newcomers Trim Bulldogs, who failed to win a match. The Dublin Dragons 2nds won one match against Trim 51-0.

Team Changes from 2010

Drogheda Lightning and Trim Bulldogs were two new Leinster Regional teams. Erris Rams and IT Carlow Chargers dropped out of the League, as did the seconds teams of UCD, Trinity College and Dublin Rebels. Dublin Dragons fielded a seconds team for the first time.

About

Report

Tullamore Phoenix won the league, largely down to being the only team that played a full season. Craigavon Cowboys 2nds, Carrickfergus Knights 2nds and Dublin Rebels 2nds won all their games, though they only played a limited schedule. Erris Rams & UCD 2nds managed one win apiece.

Team Changes from 2009

The third season of the DV8 Development League saw Craigavon Cowboys, Trinity College & UCD make the move up to the full 11-a-side IAFL, to be replaced by their 2nds teams. Dublin Dragons also made the move back up to the IAFL. The Midlands Soldiers disbanded and were replaced in the Midlands by Tullamore Phoenix. The IT Carlow Chargers entered the league but lost their sponsor and disbanded after one game. The Dublin Rebels again fielded a second team in the league as did the Carrickfergus Knights.

Report

The League was won by the Craigavon Cowboys after the two student teams were deducted points for failing to fulfil league requirements. They had finished on a 6-2 record, the same as UCD, with Trinity on 7-1.

At the other end of the table the Dragons picked up three wins and the Erris Rams managed two wins against the Soldiers, who failed to win a match for the second year in a row.

A victory over the Midland Soldiers gave the Craigavon Cowboys the title on the last day of the season.

Team Changes from 2008

The second season of the DV8 development League saw the previous years finalists Cork Admirals 2nds and Dublin Rebels 2nds drop out to be replaced by UCD Sentinels and Erris Rams from Mayo. The Edenderry Soldiers merged with the Mullingar Archers and became the Midlands Soldiers, based in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

The DV8 Development League was an 8-a-side fully kitted league and was set up in 2008 with two main aims: (1) To give teams in the Irish Regions a chance to play Competitive Football while building up their kit & player numbers and (2) to enable 2nds teams of bigger IAFL teams in the main league to field 2nds teams.

Report

Cork Admirals 2nds won the Christy Farrell Memorial Tournament on 2nd September 2007, held in Edenderry Rugby Club, Co. Offaly. They beat the Edenderry Soldiers 26-0 in the opening game and then defeated Dublin dragons 2nds 42-0. They were scheduled to take part in a third match against the Tallaght Outlaws 2nds but a combination of a serious injury to a player and the torrential rain making the playing surface unsafe led to the rest of the tournament being cancelled and the Admirals declared winners.

There was a second DV8s Charity Tournament in Carrickfergus on the16 September, with four Northern teams – Belfast Bulls 2nds, Belfast Trojans 2nds, Carrickfergus Knights 2nds and Craigavon Cowboys – taking part. The Belfast Trojans won all three matches, in what was the Craigavon cowboys last DV8 Blitz before making the step up to the full 11-a-side Irish American Football League in 2008.
