Report

21,617 spectators turned ot at Croke Park, Dublin on 25 April 1948 to witness a game of American Soft-Ball. With Baseball ruled out because the pitch was deemed unsuitable with a high risk of injury, two teams from US Navy played a game of Soft-Ball, like Baseball, but with underarm pitching and smaller infield (between the bases).

The Cruiser USS Fresno ran out easy winners, by 20 runs to five over detroyers USS Johnston and W.R. Rush, and brought in over £1,000 for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The Fresno men were 3 runs up after one inning and scored another 8 in the second to leave the score 11-0 after two innings. the Wild Pitching and bad catching of the other team was unsurprising as they came from two naval vessels, and only brought together on the day.
