Half Moon won the Clontarf Senior 5-a-side Tournament on 19 August 1990, defeating St. Vincent’s A 7-3 in the Final, with goals from S. Moraghan (4), B. McLoughlin (2) and C. O’Driscoll. St. Vincent’s A’s goals were scored by B. Murphy (2) and O.Flanagan.

In all, 9 teams entered the Tournament, with the sides drawn into three sections of three for the Preliminary Group Stage and the winners and best runners-up qualifying for the Semi-Finals. The other Semi-Finalists were North Dublin A and Guinness.

St. Vincent’s, from Glasnevin in Dublin won the Irish Water Polo Association Bert O’Brien Schools Cup in 1998 with a 1-0 victory over St. Joseph’s (Glasthule) in the Final. The only goal of the Final was scored by A. McCarthy.

St. Andrew’s (Booterstown) and St. Declan’s (Cabra) also qualified for the Semi-Finals from the Group Stage, ahead of Brunswick Street (Dublin 7), Malahide Community School and St. Joseph’s B

Report

Republic of Ireland finished second Overall, behind Invitational team Grenada (Invitational Winners) and first the European Section in the Netball Europe Open Challenge in Newcastle, England in 2016, by defeating Switzerland and USA in the Final Round.

The Republic of Ireland team had earlier beaten Gibraltar and Israel in the Pool Stage, before losing to eventual Champions Grenada. This left them in the Final Round, where the match with Grenada carried over. Overall they finished on 4 Wins and 1 Loss, with a 3-0 Record in the European Section.
