The Irish Water Polo Association was organised on a National League and knockout Championship basis like the GAA until more recently. The Ladies Irish Championship was won by Cathal Brugha, who beat Half Moon 6-5 in the Final, after winning 11-3 against Glenalbyn in the Semi-Finals, held over the course of a weekend in April 2003 in Leisureland in Galway.

Report

Dublin City University captured the 2013-14 Basketball Ireland Women’s Colleges League title after defeating Cork IT 72-52 in the Final. DCU had overcome University College Cork 64-45 in the Semi-Finals and Cork IT had received a walkover from University of Ulster Jordanstown.

The Regular Season Northern Conference title was taken by DCU with a 7-1 Wins-Losses record, and Cork IT had won all six of their matches to take the Southern Conference Championship.

Report

Trinity College Dublin beat Dublin City University 70-64 in the Women’s Division A Varsity Final in the National Indoor Arena in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. They managed to overturn a 21-point DCU lead. The reigning Champions were surprised by the Trinity team, led by MVP Sorcha Tiernan, and supported by Sarah Kenny, Rachel Huijsdens and Rebecca Rabeiro.

The holders, DCU led 26-13 in the second quarter when the comeback began, and by halftime Trinity College had turned the deficit into just 9 points. 42-33. Despite outstanding displays from DCU’s Megan Connolly and Aoife Maguire, the Trinity team overturned the deficit by the end of the third quarter to lead 57-50, before finishing off in style, eventually winning 70-64. Report

University College Cork won the 2002-03 Men’s Basketball Intervarsities, held from the 6th to the 9th March 2003, in the National University of Ireland, Galway. 12 Universities entered in total, divided into four Groups of three, with the top two in each group qualifying for the Cup Quarter-Finals.

UCC won both Group matches, before beating Dublin City University 35-30 in the Quarter-Finals, University College Dublin 73-69 in the Semi-Finals, and Trinity College Dublin 68-60 in the Cup Final. Trinity College Dublin had won 69-56 against NUI Maynooth in the Quarter-Finals before defeating Queens University Belfast 68-60 in the Semi-Finals.

The Consolation Plate Competition was won, like in the Women’ds Intervarsities, by Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, by a score of 65-49 over University of Ulster Coleraine.
