Report

Hurricanes marched through the 2nd Half of the season (the Championship) with a 6-0 record, winning the Playoff Final by 2 games to nil against their arch nemesis Spartans. Greystones Mariners had finished the first half with an unbeaten 8-0 record, but collapsed in the second half Championship with a 1-5 Win-Loss Record. Hurricanes had finished with a 6-2 record in the first half, and the Spartans qualified for the Final with a 3-3 Record in the Championship, after finishing the first half 6-2. Black Soc were the fourth team to qualify for the Championship. finishing the first half 5-3, and then narrowly missing out on a place in the Final with a 2-4 record in the Championship.

The League had been split at the halfway point into a Championship (Top Half) and Trophy (Bottom Half) with the four Championship teams making up the new A-League in 2006 along with the Trophy winners, and the other teams were to be made B-teams of these teams in the new B-League. Panthers, after surprisingly struggling in the first half with just one win from 8, went 7-1 in the 2nd Half Trophy and then came from one game down to beat the Belfast North Stars in the best-of-three Final. Belfast North stars (6-2) also had a much better 2nd half after a disappointing 1st half (2-5). The other three teams all struggled – Belfast Wolves going 4-4 after going 1-7 in the first half, and the Giants (a new team) and Trojans bringing up the rear after both going 3-4 in the first half.

Huuricanes – 2005 Irish League Champions [4]

About

The 2005 Irish Baseball League season was the 9th season of the Adult Irish Baseball League. It featured 9 teams – a drop of one on 2004, with new team Giants replacing the Blue Devils & Tigers who both dropped out.

The League was split halfway into a Championship and Trophy sections to determine which teams would play in the new A-League in 2006, and which would be made B-Teams of the A-League in the new B-League, after it was decided to consolidate the players on a smaller number of clubs, each with its own B-team.

Report

________________________________________________________
<p>With the Belgian and Dutch Federations making the step up to European Football League level from the Atlantic Cup in club competitions in 2017, the focus for Irish clubs became single-game matches with teams from the fringes of Europe.

This started in 2014 when the University of Limerick Vikings made the trip to Andalucia in Spain to play the Granada Lions, losing 34-12.

The following year the Belfast Trojans lost 24-14 to East Kilbride Pirates of Scotland, who hadn’t lost to Scottish opposition in over a decade. The UL Vikings made another trip to the Iberian regions, going down 12-7 to the Barcelona Bufals.

In 2017, with the Belgian and Dutch entrants moving up to the European Football League, the Atlantic Cup became a single-game Bowl between Irish champions, the Dublin Rebels, and the Romanian champions, Bucharest Rebels, with the Dublin side winning 42-14.

Report

________________________________________________________

The Atlantic Cup was the official West European Club Championship for the winners of purely amateur National Leagues in Ireland, Belgium and Netherlands. A team from Luxembourg or the winners of France’s Casque d’Argent (Silver Helmet – the third level) were the usual fourth team in the competition.

In 2017 the Dutch and Belgian Federations made the step up to European Football League level, and the competition became a single match between the Irish champions and the Romanian champions.

The Winners Record before the competition changed includes 3 wins for Ireland (UL Vikings 2010, Belfast Trojans 2013 & 2015), [2][5][7]  3 wins for Belgium (West-Vlaanderen Tribes 2009, Brussels Tigers 2014, Brussels Black Angels 2016) [1][6][8] and 2 wins for Netherlands (Lelystad Commanders 2011 & 2012) [3][4], as well as Dublin Rebels triumph in 2017.
