Recap

Almost all games went to form in the National Division Management Association Youth League in 1989. The top League of Youth Kitted American Football in Britain in 1989 was won by Leicester Panthers 2-0 thanks to a safety versus London Olympians in atrocious weather in November. The Panthers were deserving winners having won all six regular season games and then defeated Fylde Falcons of Blackpool, Lancashire, 50-0 in the Semi-Finals.

Fylde had been lucky to get into the playoffs with their 2-4 record, the same as Northampton Stormbringers and Manchester Spartans, but the Stormbringers appeared to have been excluded from the playoffs due to forfeiting their Week 7 game against Birmingham Bulls, and the Falcons thus won the Head-to-Head tie-breaker with Manchester Spartans whose shock 26-8 victory over the Stormbringers on the Final Week necessitated the three-way tie-breaker. London Olympians (5-1) had defeated Birmingham Bulls (4-2) by a two touchdowns (13-0) in the other Semi-Final. Manchester Allstars finished last although did not discgrace themselves with close losses to Northampton (29-36) and the Spartans (8-16).

Report

The 1993 British Youth American Football Association Youth Kitted League was won by Southend Sabres for the second year in a row. The defending Champions made light work of Heathrow Jets in the Final, winning 44-6. Prior to that they had defeated Birmingham Bulls in the Quarter-Finals. The Sabres were Champions of the Anglian Conference where they tied a game with Norwich Devils 0-0, the only game they failed to win all year. After the season they made the step up to the British American Football Association Senior League, and the Youth team merged with Basildon Chiefs to form Essex Youth. Basildon Chiefs themselves had made the step up the the YKL from playing only friendlies in 1992.

The Chiefs were one of six entirely new teams in the YKL for 1993 with Haven Raiders (Boston, 0-3), Cambridge Cobras (1-3), Leicester Hurricanes (1-3-1), Gloster Gladiators (0-4) and Brent who folded after one game being the others. In all there were 27 teams, up from two in 1992, the six new teams replacing Ipswich Cardinals, Brighton B-52s, Folkestone Wolverines and Tiptree Titans for 1993. Southern Sun Devils replaced Eastleigh Devils, Milton Keynes Predators replaced Milton Keynes Mavericks. Luton Huskers moved to Bedford.

Report

Southend Sabres pulled off a big shock in the British Youth American Football Association Youth Kitted League Final in 1992 with a 28-8 victory over Glasgow Lions in the Final. MVP Brian Sargent and Simon Jones scored two touchdowns each for the victors and Paul Bushell added the two-point conversion as the underdog Sabres rattled the Glasgow Lions with their running game. Craig McCewan scored the Scots only touchdown with a TD reception from QB Jason Hey. Willie Brown added their conversion. The Sabres had finished runners-up to Ipswich Cardinals in the Southern Conference but then went on an amazing playoff run that saw them defeat Eastleigh Devils, Ipswich Cardinals and London Capitals all away from home. The other Conference Champions were Birmingham Bulls (West); Farnham Knights (Capital): Bournemouth Renegades (Coastal); Norwich Devils (Anglian); and Glasgow Lions (Northern).

Report

Northants Storm lived up to their name, storming to the British Youth American Football Association Kitted Final, triumphing by a large margin in the Final, 58-6, over London Capitals. They had earlier defeated Steel City Giants, from Sheffield in Yorkshire, 30-12, in the Northern Conference Final, while London Capitals had squeezed by Farnham Knights, from Hampshire, 18-14 in the Southern Conference Semi-Final.

In total 30 teams entered the BYAFA Kitted League in 1991, and were divided into eight divisions in two conferences, north and south. London Capitals, Bristol Aztecs, Farnham Knights and Colchester Gladiators were the four division winners in the Souther Conference, while Northants Storm, Blackpool Falcons, Steel City Giants and Leeds Cougars were the Northern Conference Division winners.

Quarterback Pete Underwood linked up with Wide Receiver Steve Booth for two Touchdowns for Northants in the Final, and the pair devastated the Capitals defense all day.
