Report

With three teams going unbeaten for half the season it was always going to be difficult to choose the Champion from the 2013 OMFA Organisacion Mexicano de Futbol Americano Pro Championship. OMFA Pro was the leading Professional League in Mexican American Football at the time until it was superseded by FAMA (Futbol Americano Mexico Asociacion) in 2014.

In the end it was Olmecas Premier (Olmecas were the first ever written civilisation in Ancient Mexico) who prevailed in the Final over Tigres Oro SSP ( Gold Tigers Secretaria de Securidad Publica) with Lobos Toluca also worthy of praise, going 3-0 in their first three matches before falling to Olmecas Premier, who knocked them out again in the Semi-Finals. Other teams were Rancheros Aguas Calientes, Aguilas Blancas (White Eagles) and Horda Dorada (Golden Horde).

Report

The Liga de Futbol Americano (Mexico) announced on its homepage that the 2021 season would consist of 8 teams: The Mayas were to return to play after a years absence and the Artilleros Puebla were to take a year out. The North Division would consist of Dinos Saltillo, Fundidores Monterrey, Pioneros Queretaro and Raptors Edomex. The Central Division was to consist of Condores CDMX, Mexicas CDMX, Mayas and Osos Toluca.

On the 11th April 2021 the League announced the suspension of Operations due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, because even though there were vaccines, there was not enough of the population vaccinated.

On 14 April the AAA Rival League to LFA, the Futbol Americano de Mexico (FAM) announced it was suspending operations for 2021 and also that Pioneros Queretaro was to rejoin the League from LFA. The Pioneros helmet was removed from the LFA homepage at the same time. This is probably an early indication of how the 2022 line-ups will be made.

Report

The Futbol Americano de Mexico – a AAA / Rival Major League to the Liga Futbol Americano (Mexico), is one of the two Professional American Football Leagues in Mexico. For its third season in 2021, it has scheduled the same six teams as the 2020 season – unusual for a AAA Pro American Football League anywhere, let alone Mexico.

The season was to begin on 22 February and run for 7 weeks before the playoffs, with each team getting one rest (bye) week. On 14 April 2021 the FAM Commissioner Zapata made the announcement that the FAM season would be cancelled due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic and also that Pioneros Queretaro would be the 8th team in the League.

Report

AMFA has produced Mexican College Football Rankings (American Football) since the split caused by the Private Colleges forming their own Conference: CONADEIP Premier. From 2014 to 2017 there was a different winner each year, although all came from CONADEIP Premier: Aztecas UDLA Puebla in 2014, Borregos Salvajes (White Rams) Monterrey in 2015, Aztecas UDLA Puebla again in 2016, and Borregos Salvajes Toluca in 2017. Tigers UANL Nuevo Leon won it for ONEFA 8 Grandes (Public Colleges Big 8) in 2018 and Burros Blancos (White Donkeys) IPN Zacatecas in 2019, again from ONEFA 8 Grandes. Without an Overall Playoff Final between the two big Conferences, the College Champion was decided by a poll conducted by AMFA. This is similar to the system used by US Colleges for 100 years until quite recently to decide the National Champions in NCAA Football, although the NCAA in USA now has a College Football Playoff.

About LEXFA

LEXFA is an Arena (8v8 Indoor) version of American Football that has become quite popular in Mexico. A team called the Irish, who used the Notre Dame Fighting Irish logo played in a lower division.

About Arena / Indoor Football

This version of American (or Gridiron) Football has become extremely popular in Mexico.

Indoor Football, also known as Arena Football was developed in 1986 as an 8v8 form of Indoor American Football. After an initial few seasons where the game was developed with a 4 team league, a full seasons League with eventually over a dozen teams was developed in the 1990 which was considered by the Wall Street Journal to be a fifth major.

The Arena Football League over-expanded in the 2000s with a Minor League, and its importance (and number of teams) waned since it first experienced financial difficulties  in 2009, and it ceased operations after the 2019 season due to the legacy debt incurred.

There is now, however, Indoor Football Leagues all over America, all of which would now be considered Minor League or Semi-Pro (AAA, AA, or even A) as well as two leagues in Mexico, one of which has 50 teams.

Indoor Football is played on a 50-yard field with two 8-yard endzones, and teams have 5 downs (attempts) to reach the endzone or the ball is turned over. 3 of those downs must be passing plays, making Indoor Football highly explosive and high scoring.

The main difference between Arena Football & Indoor Football is the rebound nets either side of the goalposts in Arena Football, which is the only part of the original patent given to the Arena Football League in 1989, that a subsequent ruling in 1998 ruled was copyright, the rest being Football already in other leagues.
