About

The Leinster Motorcycle & Car Club was founded in 1921. In 1923 they began organissing 100-mile Motor-Cycle Races, and in 1930 the Leinster Trophy moved to a new circuit around Skerries-Rush-Lusk. In 1934 they ran the first Leinster Trophy Car Race, which was won by Miss Fay Taylour, driving a car owned by Fianna Fail TD, Robert Briscoe.

In 1935 the circuit moved to Tallaght, as the Skerries circuit was not suited to 4-wheeled vehicles, and the race continued around the Tallaght Circuit until 1939, and the outbreak of World War II. It was restarted in 1948, and continued for two years.

Two sons of Arthur Conan-Doyle, who wrote The Sherlock-Holmes books, took part in one of the races.

The race ran from Main St, Tallaght, along to Templeogue Bridge, then down Firhouse Road to Old Bawn, and back up to Main St, Tallaght.

The races were Major events on the Irish Motor Racing Calendar. [Reference: 1]

Report

The 2020 American Football Ireland Season was cancelled on 4 April 2020, a couple of weeks after a revised, shortened season schedule of 6 matches per team was brought in due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. [Ref: 12]

The AFI board made the decision to cancel the season in its entirety due to two main reasons: The uncertainty around when the pandemic would end, making it unlikely a schedule will be published in time for the teams to prepare for the season, and also the probablity of the unavailability of ambulance cover at matches.

The AFI board did, however, state the possibility of running a 2 to 3 week invitational tournament at the end of summer for clubs that wish to take part, making the possibilty of some form of kitted football possible in 2020. [Ref: 11]

GAA Rounders Senior Mixed All Ireland Championship Results 2019 [Reference: 3-4]

Report

The Wexford duo of Adam Doyle & Jay Malone, with expert fielding, helped Glynn/Barntown take the Syntex Cup back to Wexford for the first time. Neither the Wexford team, nor defending Champions, The Heath of Co. Laois, had lost a game all season, and the Final scoreline reflected both teams competitiveness, finishing 17-15 to Glynn-Barntown. About

The World Hockey Association of 1972-1979 was a Major League rival to the National Hockey League. Three of the Leagues’ Champions – Winnipeg Jets 1975-76, 1977-78, 1978-79; New England Whalers 1972-73; and Quebec Nordiques 1976-1977 – joined the National Hockey League after the merger between the two Leagues in 1979. All three teams have since moved. The only other team to have won the AVCO World Trophy – the Houston Aeros – folded after the 1977-78 season.

The only other team to join the NHL after the merger – the Edmonton Oilers – is the only one still in its original hometown, and although the only one of the four to not have won the AVCO World Trophy, is the only one to have won the NHL’s Stanley Cup.
