Tadhg Leader Irish-born Professional American Football Player 2021

Tadhg Leader Biography

Born: Galway, Ireland

Metrics: Height: 6’02”. Weight: 205 lbs.

College: International (Ireland); Lindenwood University (USA).

Professional Career: Connacht Rugby (Pro 12 Rugby); New England Free Jacks (Major League Rugby, 2019); Aviators (The Spring League 2021); Panthers Wroclaw (European League of Football 2021)

Position: Kicker.

Biography:

Former Connacht Rugby player Tadhg Leader was born in Galway, Ireland. At the age of 15 he and his brother Darragh headed out to kick some Rugby balls at their local pitch on Christmas Day. His dad, a former Galwegians RFC Rugby player made a bet with them that they could not kick the ball over the bars from the halfway line. Both Tadhg and his brother Darragh won €50 each.

Tadhg went on to play Rugby Professionally for Connacht and Darragh now lives in USA where he coaches at Clemson University Tigers. Tadhg suffered a number of injuries during his last few years at Connacht and after playing in Italy he ended up studying in USA and playing for both New England Free Jacks in Major League Rugby and making his Test debut for USA Eagles Rugby Union National Team.

Tadhg was signed up to play another year of Rugby Union in 2021 when the kicker started kicking American Footballs for fun. People took notice and said he should try out for American Football teams and so he went off to San Diego where he was kicking alongside Super Bowl-winning athletes. Unsure of his own ability he asked John Carney, who has 23 years of experience kicking Footballs and Carney said he could mix it with the NFL players.

Before long Leader found himself playing for the Aviators in The Spring League in USA. The Aviatiors, one of four teams based in Indianapolis, a COVID-19 Pod and one of two Pods in the 8-team league in 2021 finished with an 0-6 record in 2021. On May 7 versus Alphas Tadhg Leader scored the first points of his American Football career kicking a Field Goal to make the score Aviators 3 Alphas 7 at Halftime.

After spending Spring in Indianapolis with the Aviators Tadhg signed for Panthers Wroclaw in the European League of Football, making his debut on August 1 in a 31-33 loss at Cologne Centurions. Tadhg scored a 35-yard Field Goal in that game to make the score 16-7 [References: 7-8] On August 22 he kicked a 52-yard Field Goal, his personal highlight in a 30-24 victory at Hamburg Sea Devils [References: 9-10]. The Hamburg game was his fourth of the ELF season [References: 11]. Panthers Wroclaw finished the season with three straight wins to finish on 6-4 and reached the Playoffs where they lost to Hamburg Sea Devils 27-30.

Hypothetical Fantasy Football NCAA-Style Conference Alignment for all American Football Ireland Teams Ever 2021

Notes

(1) The “Northern Ireland Championship” features the Seven Pre-Irish American Football League of 1986 teams that were based in Ireland: five “European Theater of Operations” ETO Football Championship teams based in Northern Ireland during WWII and the two teams of specially-trained Rugby Players who played a Festival match at Banbridge RFC in 1983.

(2) The Irish Conference includes six Republic of Ireland teams who were scheduled to play in the Irish American Football League in 1990, but never did – in the end only five Northern Ireland teams started the season, with Dublin Celts playing in the British 2nd Division. At least one Preseason Friendly was played among these teams: Bray Seahawks v Dublin Tornadoes, and Lee Valley Steelers (Cork) and Limerick Patriots were to play in the League in 1992 and 1993. Dublin Pirates collapsed at the end of the season and a failed attempt was made to bring them back in 1992. Nothing else is known about the Waterford and Galway franchises, not even their name, and also the team in Athy mentioned as “already playing” in Lindie Naughton’s Minority Sports Column in the Evening Herald in 1993.

(3) The Northern Ireland Junior American League includes not just teams which played Junior Football only (City Colts, Ballymena Wolfhounds, Prospect Pumas and Brownlow Bandit, but also those who played Two-Touch only – a form of Contact Football without pads and helmets – all players could be tackled except the ball carrier who could only be tackled by placing two hands on him or her. TheseTwo-Touch Only teams are: Lisburn Groundhogs, Maiden City Maulers and Peel Crusaders (Isle of Man).

(4) DV8 Development League includes 8v8 Development League-only teams, who never played full 11v11 Tackle Football.

(5) A separate Belfast Knights and Carrickfergus Knights have been created for the purposes of this hypothetitcal “Madden” / “Fantasy Football” League for the two Eras of the Knights history.

(6) Galway Sea Devils and Dundalk IT Razorbacks, while both never played in the League, were full members (*)

Championship Game Recap

James Connally, who has the same name as Irish Patriot Leader James Connolly, starred for Juneau Huskies, who play at Adair Kennedy Field, another name associated with great Irish Leaders, in the Alaska Schools Activities Association High School Football First National Bowl Series Division I Championship Game in 2021, scoring two reception Touchdowns, however, ended up on the losing team as East Anchorage Thunderbirds won 30-17. The other five Juneau points came from the boot of Adams – one Field Goal and two Point After Touchdown conversions.

Regular Season Recap

The Juneau Huskies had won the Regular Season, winning their first two games at home to Colony Knights (53-12) and Dimond Lynx (35-6) before falling away to West Anchorage Eagles, 23-49. They then defeated the other Top 3 team, East Anchorage Thunderbirds, 39-28 to go 3-1 at the halfway stage, before finishing with three more victories, against Service Cougars (away, 49-12), Bartlett Golden Bears (away, 27-14) and 42-7 at home at Adair Kennedy Field to South Anchorage Wolverines. The Huskies had a bye in Week 8 before defeating Dimond Lynx 31-3 and Bartlett Golden Bears 50-20 in the Playoffs.

East Anchorage Thunderbirds had finished second in the Cook Inlet Conference (the Big and only ASAA Football Division I Conference) with a similar 6-1 record, losing out on the Conference title on head-to-head. The Thunderbirds defeated Service Cougars 48-14 and West Anchorage Eagles 34-32 on the way to the Championship Game. About the NSFL 2014

The National Spring Football League (NSFL) – the second organisation to use that name – announced on Facebook on July 4th 2013 it was to begin play as the 1st Minor Professional Football League that would be totally dedicated to the “Growth and Devlopment of its Players, Coaches, Staff, Team and League” [Reference: 2]. The only officially announced team was Texas HeatSeekers, and apart from a link to a Cheerleaders Team Page for the HeatSeekers and another possibly linked team the Illinois Seahawks, the League announced on January 19th 2014 that the planned season on 2014 was not going ahead.
