Report

14 teams entered the first Emerald Bowl conference season in 2014-15, with Mullingar Minotaurs winning Emerald Bowl I 19-13 against the Dublin Vipers. Craigavon Cowboys won surprisingly easily 36-0 in Emerald Bowl II in 2015-16 against the defending Champions. Emerald Bowl III in 2016-17 saw Dublin Vipers finally fulfill their promise with a 26-20 win against the Edenderry Eagles from Co. Offaly.

Edenderry Eagles gained revenge the following year, winning 32-12 against the Vipers, and then in 2018, Craigavon Cowboys became the first team to win the Emerald Bowl twice, defeating the Louth Mavericks 18-12. Edenderry Eagles won their second Bowl in three years in 2019, 54-24 over Trinity College Dublin.

About

In 2014 the Irish Flag Football Association was officially recognised by the Irish American Football Association, and the first Irish Flag Football League season was played 2014-15. Named the Emerald Bowl Conference, this was played for the Emerald Bowl. There had previously been an Irish Flag Football League from 1991-2000, but this was Dublin-Area only, and from then until 2014 there were “Turkey Bowl” type tournaments held over the course of the year (so-named as a lot of the tournaments coincided with Thanksgiving or Christmas)

The 2019 season had seen the League split into two levels – the Emerald Bowl Conference for the top 12, and the Glas Bowl Conference for newer or less established teams. In 2020, under the new American Football Ireland brand, the divisions were renamed the Premier Division and Division 1.
