Team Name: Cork is the Home City of the Irish Navy and the Cork Admirals Home Field in Ringaskiddy is also the town where the National Martitime College of Ireland is based.

Home Field: Pfizers Sports Ground, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork (2002-2003) Douglas Community School (2008) and Carrigaline Rugby Club, Cork (2008)

Colours: Red Helmets, White Jerseys, Red Pants.

Honours: Inaugural DV8 Development League Champions and Playoff Winners 2008 (30-0 v Dublin Rebels 2nds), Christy Farrell Memorial Tournament Winners (2007), Joint Best 2nds Team Record Division 2 (2003).

History: Formed as a 2nds team by the Cork Admirals in 2002, they lost the one game they played that year (as is currently known), before embarking on a successful five year run where they finished with the joint best 2nds team record in 2003, and then won both the Christy Farrell Memorial Tournament in Edenderry Co. offaly in 2007 and the Inaugural DV8 Development League in 2008 (defeating Dublin Rebels 2nds 30-0 in the Final), which was set up by the IAFA as a second level, to help newer teams start up and established teams field seconds teams. Were replaced by a Junior Kitted Team in 2009.

22 Republic of Ureland players and 5 Northern Ireland players were on the squads of the 20 FA Premier League Clubs for 2020-21. 16 of those ROI players had made a first team appearance and 4 of the NI players had done so by the end of October (week 6). Nine of the Irish players had scored a goal with Sheffield United’s Callum Robinson having scored twice and two of the Northern Irish players having scored a goal.

There was an unusual look to the FA Premier League Table at the end of October 2020, with Everton, Aston Villa and Leicster among the pacesetters. Only Liverpool and Spurs of the Big 6 were challengers after the sixth round of matches, and of the others only Chelsea managed to squeak into the top half of the table in 10th place. Arsenal (11th), Manchester City (13th) and Manchester United (15th) were all languishing in the bottom half of the table.

Perhaps it was the absence of spectators due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, but there was an unusual amount of goals being scored, with an incredible Super Sunday Weekend at the beginning of October in Week 4 as Aston Villa knocked 7 past a stunned Liverpool in a 7-2 win (it could have been 10 or more) and Spurs trounced Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford.

Villa’s sole defeat came at the hands of fellow early title challengers Leeds (0-3 at Villa Park in Birmingham), while Liverpool FC were in second, with four wins in six matches, behind Everton in second place. Spurs made up the top six. At the other end of the table West Brom, Burnley, Sheffield United and Fulham were all struggling without a win.

This article takes a look at how the DV8 Development League Standings would have looked if there were separate standings kept for 1st Teams and 2nds teams as in the IAFL Division 2 in 2003. In general 1st Teams played a full schedule of 6-8 games and 2nds teams a half shedule of 2-3 games.

Tullamore Phoenix won the 1st teams title using this method in 2010 and 2011 as they did the overall Development League title those years. Drogheda Lightning had the best record in 2012 overall but there was no clear winner with four teams on 4 wins including Trim Bulldogs victory over Drogheda in the Moneygall American Festival which was not counted in the standings.

The unofficial 2nds title could have been shared between Craigavon Cowboys 2nds and Carrickfergus Knights 2nds in 2010 and 2011, with both teams undefeated, and then in 2012 Belfast Trojans 2nds shade it over Craigavon Cowboys 2nds with a recordof 4-0-1 compared to the Cowboys 2nds 4-1-0.

About

The DV8 Development League was an 8-a-side fully kitted league and was set up in 2008 with two main aims: (1) To give teams in the Irish Regions a chance to play Competitive Football while building up their kit & player numbers and (2) to enable 2nds teams of bigger IAFL teams in the main league to field 2nds teams. 

From 2008-2009 each team played a full schedule (6 games in 2008 & 8 games in 2009) and from 2010-2012 teams from the Irish Regions played a full schedule and 2nds teams played a half or three-quarter schedule.

In 2013 the League became a full 11-a-side second Division known as the IAFL 1 Conference. The DV8 format was kept for a third level over the Winter months of 2012-13 (playing in Blitzes) and following formation of the IAFL 2 Conference in 2014, the format was used for the Junior Kitted League.

American Football Ireland Scrimmages 2020-21 [Reference: 2-4]

In the absence of the start of the American Football Ireland Flag League in August 2020, Dublin Rebels and Dublin Bay Raptors played a scrimmage game in De La Salle Palmeston RFC, which the Raptors won with a last second Touchdown and two-point conversion by Jimmy English, received from Quarterback Joe Grey. [Reference: 2] Dublin City Quetzals had earlier pulled out of a game with the Rebels.

In the second game at Booterstown Park, the Dublin Bay Raptors lost 6-12 to the Dublin City Quetzals. a third quarter was played which was treated as a second half game with the Quetzals Raptors winning 22-12.

The League was cancelled on and the Results declared null and void due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic. They are presented here as an unofficial Provincial Conference, as with the Pandemic the League was rearranged into self-contained Conference with no inter-conference play before the government restrictions meant the cancellation of the league.

A revised American Football Ireland Flag schedule for 2020 was brought out in September due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic. In the Central Conference Westmeath Minotaurs convincingly won both their opening games and Galway Warriors and Louth Mavericks 2nds started off with one win each.

In the second weekend of the Season Louth Mavericks 2nds and Westmeath Minotaurs both picked up two wind from two in the central conference.

The League was cancelled on and the Results declared null and void due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic. They are presented here as an unofficial Provincial Conference, as with the Pandemic the League was rearranged into self-contained Conference with no inter-conference play before the government restrictions meant the cancellation of the league.

About

The American Football Ireland Flag Division One is the Second Level of Flag Football in Ireland. 15 teams entered the Division in 2020, bringing the total number of Flag Football teams in the League to 23.

Last years Glas Bowl runners-up Maynooth Hurricanes and Semi-Finalists Cork City Outlaws were promoted to the AFI Flag Premier Division (Level 1) for 2020, with Westmeath Minotaurs, University College Dublin and Dublin rebels being relegated from the Premier Division to Division One. Meath Bulldogs did not enter a team in 2020 after being relegated as well.

New teams to Division One for 2020 were Dublin City Quetzals, a team made up of former contact players from the Mexican League, who are over in Ireland working [Ref: 3], WIT Vikings from the Waterford Institute of Technology, as well as Flag Football teams of Contact Football teams Antrim Jets, Causeway Giants, Donegal Derry Vipers and North Kildare Reapers.

Non-Returning teams were NI Razorbacks, Ulster University Elks, Norton Wasps as well as the 2nds teams of Craigavon Cowboys and University College Cork. In total, 23 teams is the highest ever in one season of the Irish Flag Football League, in all its incarnations.

A revised American Football Ireland Flag schedule was brought out in September. Craigavon Cowboys and Belfast Trojans both opened the season at the end of September with two wins, and Belfast Knights one win and one loss. During the second weekends play, Louth Mavericks picked up two wins versus Maynooth University (30-27) and Craigavon Cowboys (26-20) both by a touchdown or less, and Belfast Knights, Belfast Trojans and Maynooth University Hurricanes each picked up a win, leaving Belfast Trojans on top of the North Conference table with 3 wins from four, and then the Craigavon Cowboys, Louth Mavericks and Belfast Knights each on 2-2.

The American Football Ireland Flag Premier Division is the top level of Flag Football in Ireland. For the 2020 season there are 10 teams divided equally into 2 Conferences: North and South, playing a 12-game Schedule, each teams plays twice against each other team in its own Conference and once against four of the five teams in the other Conference.

Four teams were relegated from the Irish American Football Association Flag Football League Emerald Bowl Conference (the previous name of the Flag Football League) after the 2019 season: Westmeath Minotaurs, University College Dublin, Meath Bulldogs and Dublin Rebels. Two teams were promoted: Glas Bowl (Division 1) runners-up Maynooth University Hurricanes, and Semi-Finalists Cork City Outlaws.

In the Equestrian Sport Mitsubishi Motors Trophy, held at Badminton in England, C Hanley representing Ireland, and riding Laveletto in the Prix Citroen Maubeuge and Ombline de l’etang in the Prix Societe finished just outside the medals with fourth place in both prix. Also representing Ireland, D Lennon riding Naomi finished 9th in the Prix Societe.

R. Holden of Isle of Man won the Cycling Ireland Tour of Ulster in 2002, finishing on 5 hours 57 minutes and 55 secs, 32 secs ahead of D. Easton in second and Brendan Doherty in third, both with TotalCycling.com. Brendan Doherty, Colm Bracken (Usher IRC) and Jonathan Dempsey (Classic Walls) were the three stage winners.
