Recap

In 2001 the intrepid American with the Irish name, Tom Kelly, who had attempted to set up an American Football League in the former USSR in 1979, approached the Student Relations Department of the American University of Kyrgyzstan (AUK) with regards setting up a a team. The CAAFA (Central Asian American Football Association) was thus formed in April 2002 with the formation of a team at AUK. In May 2002 the first game of American Flag Football was played at Almaty, Kazakhstan, between AUK and KIMEP from Kazakhstan. The game ended in a tie and a rematch arranged for Bishkek, in Kyrgyzstan in October 2002, which AUK won.

Thereafter Friendly games were played between Bishkek BARS and American Embassy and American Representative teams in 2003 and 2004. In 2005 more kit was brought in from USA by CAAFA President NG Shulgin from Tom Kelly, and two teams were established: KIMEP in Kazakhstan, and BIshkek BARS in Kyrgyzstan, playing Challenge Games between them for four years before a second and third team were created in Bishkek, enough for a Bishkek Tournament.
