Orlando Predators (3-3) capitalised on their first win of the season the previous week to win again, 48-44, versus Columbus Lions (2-3). Weeks 8-14 (10 June-23 July 2022)

By the end of the Regular Season Albany Empire had clinched the Regular Season title with an 8-4 record, matching their 4-2 start for the second half of the season. The Empire just finished ahead of Carolina Cobras (9-5) on winning percentage (0.667 to 0.643) with Columbus Lions a close third on 7-5. Carolina had stumbled over the second half of the season, going 3-4 after a 6-1 start. Columbus went 5-2 in the second half to put themselves in Championship contention. Jacksonville Sharks (7-7) also made the playoffs as they went 4-3 in the second half with San Antonio Gunslingers (4-8) and Orlando Predators (3-9) the two teams eliminated from the Playoffs. [References: 1-2]

Playoffs (30 July 2022)

With homefield advantage Albany Empire squeezed by Jacksonville Sharks 68-67 in a high scoring encounter to advance to the NAL Championship Game where they were to meet Carolina Cobras who won 65-51 versus Columbus Lions in a similar high-scoring game at Greensboro, North Carolina.

NAL Championship (13 August 2022)

Albany Empire won the 2022 NAL Championship in blistering fashion, reeling off 41 unanswered points after Carolina Cobras took a 7-6 lead. Albany quarterback Sam Castronova fired six touchdown passes at the appropriately-named MVP Arena in New York State to make the Empire back-to-back NAL Champions. Even though Albany were 47-7 up after three quarters the never-say-die Cobras punched back with a Zack Brown Fumble Recovery in the Endzone and a 38-yard Adam Smith Touchdown catch but time ran out for the Cobras as the Empire prevailed 47-20 thanks to a 3-yard TD run by Castronova less than two minuters into the game; a catch from Aaron Wascha for a 13-7 Albany lead after a 3-yard Kendrick Ings TD pass; Aaron Wascha scored a second TD catch and another TD pass from Castronova as well as a 10-yard Darius Prince TD put Albany 34-7 ahead. Two more TD passes by Castronova for Albany put the game beyond doubt: to Marquel Wade a lineman Cornelius Lewis to give the Empire an unassailable 47-7 lead at the end of the third quarter. 2022 National Arena League Preview

After a reduced schedule of 8 games in 2021 due to Covid-19 concerns, the National Arena League has scheduled a full 14-week schedule with each team playing 12 games for 2022. Jersey Flight have left the league after finishing 2-6 in 2021 and have been replaced by San Antonio Gunslingers, giving the NAL a footprint in Texas. Albany Empire shall be defending the title they won in 2021 with a 7-1 record and two 2-Touchdown victories in the playoffs: 79-62 versus Columbus Lions in the Championship Game after a 55-41 defeat of Carolina Cobras in the Semi-Finals. With four of the six teams playing in the postseason playoffs, each team shall fancy their chances of making it beyond the regular season, with San Antonio and Jacksonville Sharks (2-6 in 2021) targetting the playoff places won by Orlando Predators (4-4 in 2021) and Carolina Cobras (3-5 in 2021). Columbus Lions (6-2 in 2021) and Albany Empire should be favourites to reach the playoffs again.

ABOUT THE NAL

The National Arena Football is a AAA (Third Level) American Football League based primarily in the Northeastern & Southern States of the USA. It is one of 2 AAA Arena Indoor Football Leagues in the USA, the other being the Indoor Football League (Midwest and West).

ABOUT ARENA / INDOOR FOOTBALL

Indoor (also known as Arena) Football plays an 8 v 8 version of American Football on a converted Ice Hockey Rink 50-yards long with 2 10 -yard endzones. Teams have 5 downs (attempts) to score or the ball is turned over – 3 of which must be passing plays. It is therefore a higher scoring game than standard 11 v 11 American Football. The main difference between Arena Football and Indoor Football is that there is no rebound net either side of the goalposts in Indoor Football. Arena Football rules allow the ball stay in play when it comas back off the rebound nets.

Week / Semana Recaps

Week / Semana 1 Recap

With three new teams debuting in the first LFA season since COVID shut down the 2020 season after five games, there was a lot of uncertainty in week 1 of the Liga de Futbol Americano in Mexico. Two of those new teams: Galgos Tijuana (Tijuana Greyhounds) and Gallos Negros (Black Cockerels) Queretaro met in Tijuana, with Gallos Negros coming out convincing winners, 33-9. The other expansion team, Reyes Jalisco (Jalisco Kings) were at home in Guadalajara to Raptors EdoMex, but came out on the losing side 10-13. The third match of the weekend saw the capital city side Mexicas CDMX lose 7-10 in Mexico City to Dinos Saltillo. Reference: [1]

Week / Semana 2 Recap

Dinos Saltillo moved to 2-0 with a 24-17 victory over Fundidores Nuevo Leon at Estadio Francisco I. Madero, in Fundidores first game of the 2022 season. Mexicas CDMX and Raptors EdoMex both stand on 1-1 after Mexicas close 10-8 victory at FES Acatlan in EdoMex. The third game of the weekend between Gallos Negros Queretaro and Reyes Jalisco was postponed until 17 April. [Reference: 1].

Week / Semana 3 Recap

Dinos Saltillo won their third game of the year 24-10 versus Gallos Negros Queretaro to go 3-0, two wins ahead of nearest rivals, Reyes Jalisco, Raptors EdoMex, Gallos Negros Queretaro, and Fundidores Nuevo Leon all of whom stand at 1-1. Fundidores defeated Mexicas CDMX 27-13 to gain their first victory, and leaving Mexicas at 1-2 in the process. Expansion franchise Galgos Tijuana fell to 0-2 after losing 0-10 to Reyes Jalisco. [References: 1-1b]

Week / Semana 4 Recap

Dinos Saltillo continued to be the team to beat in LFA 2022, going 4-0 with a 14-6 victory at Galgos Tijuana, who drop to 0-3. The biggest win of the week, however, belonged to Mexicas CDMX, who won 46-12 at Reyes Jalisco. The Mexicas improve to 2-2 at the Reyes drop to 1-2. A big game between Fundidores Nuevo Leon and Raptors Edomex, both 1-1 coming into the game, went 23-20 to Fundidores. [References: 1-1b]

Week / Semana 5 Recap

Dinos Saltillo went to 5-0 with a 34-6 defeat of Reyes Jalisco who fell to 1-3. Raptors EdoMex made a move for the playoffs with a 40-0 defeat of Galgos Tijuana who fell to 0-4 as the Raptors moved to 2-2. Fundidores Nuevo Leon looked assured of a playoff spot after defeating Gallos Negros Queretaro 13-10 to improve to 3-1. Gallos Negros drop to 1-2. [References: 1-1b]

Week / Semana 6 Recap

Raptors EdoMex inflicted the first defeat of the season on Dinos Saltillo, winning by 28-27 in the Jurassic Duel. The close win put Raptors in fourth place on 3-2 and left Dinos Saltillo still in first on 5-1. Mexicas CDMX were third after a 16-11 victory over Gallos Negros Queretaro. The victory left Mexicas CDMX on 3-2 like Raptors EdoMex, and pushed Gallos Negros back to 1-3 and needing a miracle to qualify for the playoffs. In the other match Fundidores Nuevo Leon defeated Galgos Tijuana to go 4-1 in second place and leaving Galgos still needing their first win on 0-5. [References: 1-1b]

Week / Semana 2 Rescheduled Recap

A rescheduled game over the Easter weekend saw Reyes Jalisco gain a second victory in their debut season with a 19-12 victory at Gallos Negros Queretaro. [References: 1-1b]

Week / Semana 7 Recap

Dinos Saltillo (5-1) were assured of the Regular Season title and a bye into the Semi-Finals after arch rival from Nuevo Leon, Fundidores Nuevo Leon, lost 35-24 at Reyes Jalisco (3-3) in a shock result. Fundidores (4-2) were still assured of second place and a bye into the Semi-Finals also. Joining Fundidores on 4-2 were Mexicas CDMX, the Capital City team winning 30-22 at expansion team Galgos Tijuana who finished 0-6 and out of the playoffs; and Raptors EdoMex, the team from Naucalpan in Mexico State (Estado de Mexico) where the Irish Institute School is based, who won 28-19 at Gallos Negros Queretaro, who also qualified for the Playoffs in sixth position. [References: 1-1b]

LFA Playoffs Preview

The First Round of Playoffs pits #3 Mexicas CDMX (4-2) at home to #6 Gallos Negros Queretaro (1-5) and #4 Raptors EdoMex (4-2) at home to #5 Reyes Jalisco (3-3). The first match looked like it should be a formality earlier in the season for Mexicas, who defeated the much improved Gallos Negros 16-11 in Week 6 at home in Estadio “Pallillo”, but with the three expansion teams improving each week it is no longer a certainty they shall win. Likewise Raptors EdoMex, who defeated Reyes Jalisco, another expansion team, 13-10 at Gualajara in Week 1, cannot count on victory in the second game, with Reyes Jalisco becoming the first expansion team to defeat a pre-covid team in the last week of the season when they shocked Fundidores 35-24. The winners shall meet either #1 Dinos Saltillo (5-1) or #2 Fundidores (4-2) in the Semi-Finals with the winners of those games meeting on 21 May in Estadio Caliente to decide Tazon Mexico V (Mexico Bowl V) Champions. [References: 1-1b]

Playoffs Round 1

Raptors EdoMex won through to another Semi-Final with a 26-6 defeat of Reyes Jalisco while Gallos Negros Queretaro continued to improve with a 14-7 win at Mexicas CDMX. [References: 1-1b]

Semi-Finals

Gallos Negros Queretaro reached the Tazon Mexico (Mexico Bowl) in the debut season, after a close 27-20 victory over Dinos Saltillo in the Semi-Finals. Fundidores Nuevo Leon won the right to play them in Tazon Mexico V with a 30-27 defeat of Raptors EdoMex. [References: 1-1b]

Tazon Mexico V (Mexico Bowl V)

Marcelo González opened the scoring for Fundidores Monterrey with an 11 yard run in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead (the Point After Touchdown was missed). Jason Smith recovered a fumble for a touchdown in the second quarter and with Alberto Gonzalez kicking the PAT Queretaro Black Roosters were leading 7-6 before the Smelters recovered the lead through a Field Goal to leave Monterrey 9-7 up at Halftime.

In the third quarter the Black Roosters’ Quarterback Marco Garcia sneaked into the endzone to make it 14-9 to Queretaro after another successful PAT. Monterrey again took the lead when Brandon Calzoncit ran in for a TD, but again the PAT was missed to leave Monterrey 15-14 up. Fundidores sealed the victory and their first ever Mexico Bowl with a Field Goal in the fourth quarter to leave the Final score Fundidores Monterrey 18 Gallos Negros Queretaro 14. [References: 2]

The 2022 Liga de Futbol Americano (Mexico) kicks off its sixth season. First played in 2016 between four teams (Condors CDMX, Eagles CDMX, Mayas CDMX and Raptors EdoMex) with all four teams playing in a single Arena in Mexico City (CDMX – Ciudad de Mexico) [6, 9], the league has grown to a 10 team league in 2022 with the addidion of Reyes Jalisco (Jalisco State Kings) in Guadalajara and Galgos Tijuana (Tijuana Greyhounds) from Estado Baja California (Baja California State) [1] .

All four original teams have since moved or changed name, with Mayas currently playing in Puebla State, Condors moving for 2022 to Queretaro, Eagles changing their name to Mexicas in 2017 and Raptors EdoMex (Estado de Mexico – Mexico State), moving to Naucalpan in Estado de Mexico, where the Irish Institute is based. Mayas CDMX won Mexico Bowl I in 2016 and in 2017 there was the addition of Dinos Saltillo and Fundidores Monterrey (Monterrey Smelters) in Nuevo Leon, in the North near Texas. That year the league was again won by the Mayas [2,3].

In 2018 the league was won by Mexicas CDMX, one of two teams named after Native Mexican inhabitants (the other is the Mayas) [4,5]. 2019 saw the addition of yet two more teams: Artilleros Puebla (Puebla Gunners) and Osos Toluca (Toluca Bears), bringing the total to 8 teams. Condors CDMX won the Mexico Bowl (Tazon Mexico) and the Raptors EdoMex were beaten finalists for the third time in four years (Dinos Saltillo lost the Mexico Bowl in 2017) [7, 8]. 2020 was a difficult year, with the start of the covid pandemic, and despite the addition of a ninth team, Pioneros Queretaro, the league remained at 8 for the season due to Mayas sitting out.

The 2020 league was cancelled after 5 of 8 regular season weeks due to the pandemic [10,11] and in 2021 the Artilleros dropped down to the Futbol Americano de Mexico (FAM) League with the Mayas returning. The 2021 season, however, was cancelled in its entirety [12, 13] and for the 2022 season, despite the addition of the Galgos Tijuana and Reyes Jalisco, there shall be only seven teams playing, as Pioneros Queretaro drop back down to the Futbol Americano de Mexico (FAM) league and Artilleros Puebla, Osos Toluca and Mayas take a years break.

The 2022 season shall start on March 5th and there shall be seven rounds with each team playing six regular season games. Teams ranked 1 and 2 shall receive a bye to the Semi-Finals and the 3rd to 6th placed teams play in the Quarter-Finals, which begin on April 30th. Only one team shall not make the Playoffs with the Tazon Mexico V (Mexico Bowl V) being scheduled for May 15th. It remains to be seen whether the LFA shall play at all in 2022 having cancelled the last year and a half and with three teams sitting out the year [1].

Tadhg Leader Irish-born Professional American Football Player 2021

Tadhg Leader Biography

Born: Galway, Ireland

Metrics: Height: 6’02”. Weight: 205 lbs.

College: International (Ireland); Lindenwood University (USA).

Professional Career: Connacht Rugby (Pro 12 Rugby); New England Free Jacks (Major League Rugby, 2019); Aviators (The Spring League 2021); Panthers Wroclaw (European League of Football 2021)

Position: Kicker.

Biography:

Former Connacht Rugby player Tadhg Leader was born in Galway, Ireland. At the age of 15 he and his brother Darragh headed out to kick some Rugby balls at their local pitch on Christmas Day. His dad, a former Galwegians RFC Rugby player made a bet with them that they could not kick the ball over the bars from the halfway line. Both Tadhg and his brother Darragh won €50 each.

Tadhg went on to play Rugby Professionally for Connacht and Darragh now lives in USA where he coaches at Clemson University Tigers. Tadhg suffered a number of injuries during his last few years at Connacht and after playing in Italy he ended up studying in USA and playing for both New England Free Jacks in Major League Rugby and making his Test debut for USA Eagles Rugby Union National Team.

Tadhg was signed up to play another year of Rugby Union in 2021 when the kicker started kicking American Footballs for fun. People took notice and said he should try out for American Football teams and so he went off to San Diego where he was kicking alongside Super Bowl-winning athletes. Unsure of his own ability he asked John Carney, who has 23 years of experience kicking Footballs and Carney said he could mix it with the NFL players.

Before long Leader found himself playing for the Aviators in The Spring League in USA. The Aviatiors, one of four teams based in Indianapolis, a COVID-19 Pod and one of two Pods in the 8-team league in 2021 finished with an 0-6 record in 2021. On May 7 versus Alphas Tadhg Leader scored the first points of his American Football career kicking a Field Goal to make the score Aviators 3 Alphas 7 at Halftime.

After spending Spring in Indianapolis with the Aviators Tadhg signed for Panthers Wroclaw in the European League of Football, making his debut on August 1 in a 31-33 loss at Cologne Centurions. Tadhg scored a 35-yard Field Goal in that game to make the score 16-7 [References: 7-8] On August 22 he kicked a 52-yard Field Goal, his personal highlight in a 30-24 victory at Hamburg Sea Devils [References: 9-10]. The Hamburg game was his fourth of the ELF season [References: 11]. Panthers Wroclaw finished the season with three straight wins to finish on 6-4 and reached the Playoffs where they lost to Hamburg Sea Devils 27-30.

Regular Season Schedule

Recap

The first Czech American Football Association (CAAF) season was in 1994, not long after independence from the Soviets. Four teams entered: Prague Panthers, Brno Alligators, Prague Lions and Ostrava Cobras. Prague Panthers finished the season 6-0 claiming the CAAF Championship with an astounding 145-9 triumph over Prague Lions in the first Czech Bowl.

The Prague Panthers are the oldest team in the Czech Republic and had previously played in the Austrian Football League before becoming founding members of the ČAAF Česká asociace amerického fotbalu. They got better as the season progressed, winning by bigger and bigger margins as the weeks went by. Brno Alligators and Prague Lions tied for second place on 3-3 records, and it is not known if a Semi-Final was played before the Prague Lions defeat in the Czech Bowl. Ostrava Cobras finished last on 0-6 and were replaced for the 1995 season by a new Ostrava team, the Ostrava Eagles for 1995. All three of the other teams continued to play in 1995.

ABOUT ONEFA LIGA MAYOR CONFERENCIA DE LOS 10 GRANDES

The ONEFA College Football Championship is one of the highlights of the Mexican American Football season, and was considered the National Championship from 1933 until recently, with challengers both the breakaway CONADEIP College League (2013 onwards) and the Liga Football Americano Profesional (LFA Mexico), a Major Pro League (2016 onwards).

There are a number of different eras in the ONEFA Championship, with UNAM Pumas and Condores UNAM the most successful teams. The Conferencia 14 Grandes (Big 14 Conference) was established in 2021, a level about the Conferencia Nacional (National Conference). It is a merger of the ONEFA 10 Grandes and CONADEIP with the Technology Colleges which started CONADEIP now back in the ONEFA fold.

Early Gridiron Football Teams – From Semi-Pro to WWII Era (1873-1936)

Professional Gridiron Football Teams have existed since the late 1890s. Currently there are 70 teams in existence although Eirball is counting also previous incarnations of teams which of historical significance in this list.

  1. Toronto Argonauts were formed in 1873 and are the oldest Professional Gridiron Football Team in existence. They were founder members of the CFL (Canadian Football League) and are still members of the league.

2. The Watertown Red and Black, from New Jersey appear second in this list as they were formed in 1896 and played in the World Series of Professional Football (A Series for the Champions of New York City, New Jersey, Upstate New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio which lasted two seasons: 1902 and 1903). Watertown are still in existence playing in a Semi-Pro State League in the New York / New Jersey Metropolitan Area.

3. Next up are the Ariziona Cardinals, formed in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club in an Irish neighbourhood of Chicago. The Cardinals have been through many incarnations: They changed their name first to the Normals after Normal Park, then the Racine Cardinals after a Street in Chicago. When they joined the APFA (American Professional Football Association) in 1920 they were known as the Chicago Cardinals. The APFA changed its’ name to the NFL (National Football League) in 1922 and in 1960 the Cardinals moved to St. Louis. from there they moved on to Phoenix, AZ in 1988 and then in 1993 moved to Glendale, AZ becoming the Arizona Cardinals as they were no longer based in Phoenix.

4. Green Bay Packers were formed in 1919 in Wisconsin, and are named Packers due to sponsorship from ACME Packing company in Green Bay. The Packers joined the APFA in 1921, which renamed itself the NFL in 1922. They have played at times in Milwaukee, splitting their home schedule between Green Bay and Milwaukee in the process.

5. Chicago Bears come next. Formed as the Decatur Staleys (and named after the owner) they were bought out by a Chicago consortium in 1921 which was paid by Staley to keep the name for one year. In 1922 they became the Chicago Bears.

6. New York Giants are number 6 on this list, being formed in 1924, although there was a previous team by the name of the New York Giants in the APFA as the NFL was known then in 1921. The Giants are no longer based in New York City, but in Rutherford, New Jersey, and in the 1970s briefly played in Connecticut.

7. Detroit Lions are number 7 on this list, having been formed as the Portsmouth Spartans, moving to Detroit and becoming the Lions in 1834.

8. Washington Redskins were formed as Boston Braves in 1932, becoming Boston Redskins in 1933 and moving to Washington in 1937.

9. Philadelphia Eagles were formed in 1933 and are still the Philadelphia Eagles, although they have moved Stadiums within Philadelphia.

10. Winnipeg Blue Bombers were formed in 1936, although there were previous teams in Winnipeg before the Blue Bombers. They were founding members of the CFL (Canadian Football League) when it broke away from the CRU (Canadian Rugby Union) in 1956.

Foundation of the CFL and NFL merger with AAFC (1937-1959)

11. Los Angeles Rams played in an incarnation of the AFL (American Football League) in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams before joining the NFL in 1937. The Rams moved to Los Angeles after WWII in 1945 and in 1982 moved to Anaheim, Orange County, CA. From there they moved to St. Louis in 1995 before moving back to Los Angeles in 2019.

12. Pittsburgh Steelers joined the NFL as the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1933, renaming themselves the Steelers in 1937. They briefly merged with Philadelphia Eagles as Phil-Pitt for one season during WWII (and were known as the “Steagles” by fans). They also merged for one season during WWII with the Chicago Cardinals as Card-Pitt. The Steelers moved to the AFC (American Football Conference) after the merger with the AFL in 1970.

13. Edmonton Eskimos took this name in 1938 and were founder members of the CFL in 1956. They have recently changed their name to Edmonton Elks.

14. Calgary Stampeders, like many other CFL teams, were known by many names before settling on Calgary Stampeders in 1945. They too were founder members of the CFL in 1956.

15. Originally known as Regina Roughriders the Saskatchewan Roughriders were formed in 1946 and were original members of CFL in 1956.

16. Cleveland Browns were founder members of the AAFC (All-America Football Conference) in 1946 before joining the NFL in 190. They moved to the AFC upon the merger with the AFL in 1970 and in 1996 moved to Baltimore. It was a controversial move and the NFL promised a new team to Cleveland for 1999 which would have the Cleveland Browns, name, colours, logos and history. The Baltimore team was named the Ravens.

17. San Francisco 49ers were another founding member of the AAFC that joined the NFL in 1950. In 2014 the team moved to Santa Clara, a suburb of San Jose, although kept the name San Francisco 49ers.

18. Hamilton Tiger-Cats were formed in 1950 from the merger of two previous Canadian teams: Hamilton Tigers and Hamilton Wildcats. They were founding members of the CFL in 1956.

19. The 18th team on this list is Indianapolis Colts. While there was a previous team known as the Baltimore Colts in the AAFC which joined the NFL in 1950, that team folded and was replaced first by the New York Yanks and then the Dallas Texans and after both of those two teams also folded a new Baltimore Colts was founded in 1953. The Colts joined the AFC upon merger with the AFL in 1970 and in 1982 moved to Indianapolis.

The NFL retired the name Oilers.

23. Los Angeles Chargers were founding members of the AFL in 1960. Unable to compete with the Rams in Los Angeles they moved to San Diego in 1961. Unable to gain City funding for a new Stadium in 2019 they moved back to Los Angeles, sharing a new Stadium with the Rams.

24. Buffalo Bills. Another founding member of the AFL, the Bills played one game a year in the 2000s in Toronto in order to build on their Canadian market. There was a previous team in the AAFC of 1946-1949 called the Buffalo Bills.

25. New England Patriots. Another founding member of the AFL in 1960 they were originally known as the Boston Patriots but changed their name in 1970 to reflect the fact they were no longer based in Boston, but in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

26. Dallas Cowboys. After Dallas businessman Lamar Hunt set up the AFL in 1960 the NFL placed the Cowboys in the Dallas market which forced Hunt’s Dallas Texans to relocate to Kansas City in 1963. The Cowboys are still the Dallas Cowboys although over the years they have been based in the Dallas suburbs of Irving and Arlington.

27. Las Vegas Raiders. Founder members of the AFL in 1960 the Oakland Raiders moved to Anaheim, Orange County, CA in 1982, before moving back to Oakland in 1995. Unable to get City funding for a new Stadium they moved to Las Vegas in 2020.

Watertown are still in existence, but the New Jersey teams choice of a color name is rare in Professional Football – only the Cleveland Browns (NFL) and Ottawa REDBLACKS (CFL) employ such names other than Watertown.

By far the most popular names are Animals and Humans. Animals were employed first in the NFL (National Football League, USA) by Chicago Cardinals in 1920, and subsequently by teams such as the Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams and others down to the present day where the newest Professional Franchise, Galgos Tijuana of the Liga Football Americano (Mexico), which translates as Greyhounds.

Human names for teams have been employed since the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian football League made an appearance in 1873. The Green Bay Packers were sponsored by the ACME Packing company in Wisconsin in 1919 (they joined the NFL in 1921). Popular variations on warfaring people (Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Las Vegas Raiders) have appeared since along with working-class jobs (Houston Oilers, Pittsburgh Steelers) and names for Native (Indigenous) people (Washington Redskins, Edmonton Eskimos, Mexicas CDMX, Mayas).

Less popular so far are Mechanical names, such as the names of vehicles (Winnipeg Blue Bombers, New York Jets, Atlantic Schooners) and the Computer at the Headquarters of IBM: Big Blue. Also less popular so far are Geographical names and the names and the names of Natural Phenomena. so far we have Los Angeles Chargers, Berlin Thunder, Frankfurt Galaxy, Stuttgart Surge, Rhein Fire, Fujitsu Frontiers and Nojima Sagamihara Rise (Suunrise). Then there are Creative Names (Panasonic Impulse and Elecom Kobe Finies) and the Names of Cryptozoological Creatues or Gods whose existence evidence has not been found yet: Barcelona Dragons, Hamburg Sea Devils and Tokyo Gas Creators.

Recap

The inaugural Association Marocaine de Football Américain 9-man Moroccan Football League took place in 2019. The first ever Full-contact, helmets-and-pads league in Morocco consisted of two conferences: North and South of three teams each.

While Week 3 was postponed until after Ramadan, and may not have taken place at all, there is mention on Agadir White Sharks Facebook page on March 7th 2021 of them being Champions a week after announcing they were back. Another postponed match between Black Mambas and Rabat Lions appears to have been rescheduled for February 18th 2021. The intervening Covid-19 restrictions appear to have stopped all Football in 2020 in Morocco like almost everywhere else.

As it is known, Agadir White Sharks were leading the South Conference having defeated Marrakech Spartiates, while the Casablanca Stars were also on 1-0 having also defeated Marrakech Spartiates. In the North Conference Salè Black Mambas stood on 1-0, Salè Jaguars on 1-1 and Rabat Lions on 0-1
