DFFL Final – Marlay Hellfire 6 Drimnagh Cycos 12 – 3 March 2020

Marlay Hellfire 6 Drimnagh Cycos 12 – Marlay Hellfire went into the Final as huge favourites after an undefeated 12-game season, and having only been beaten once in the Irish League over the previous two-and-a-half-years, however, the Drimnagh Cycos, after an 8-3 season, surprised them in a 12-6 victory. Every player played his part according to Drimnagh spokesman Liam Farrell. [1] Liam Farrell scored both Drimnagh’s Touchdowns and Dave Quinn of Marlay Hellfire was game MVP (Most Valuable Player). Report

Drimnagh Cycos captured the Irish Flag Football championship for 1995-96, shocking undefeated Marlay Hellfire in the Final. Marlay had gone 12-0 during the season, and had only been beaten once in the last two and a half years.

Spokesperson for the Cycos, Liam Farrell, said that everyone played their part in the victory.

NUI Maynooth Phantoms Season Roster 2013-14 [Ref: 11]

Season Report

NUI Maynooth Phantoms finished the season with a Tournament on campus – the fourth NUI Maynooth Tournament, where they finished fourth in the group stages after losing to Mullingar Minotaurs and Edenderry eagles, before tying with Dublin vipers and winning the Semi-Final against midlands rivals the Minotaurs. In the Final, however, they came up short, losing 7-28 to the Vipers.

Earlier in the season they had competed in the Viper Bowl, losing a match to the Edenderry Eagles, and had played a friendly against the Vipers in Maynooth, also losing.

History: Second ever Contact team formed after the Dublin Celts in 1985, and played first ever American Football match in Ireland between two Irish teams – a Flag Football match against the Tyrone Tornadoes on Omagh. 

Were resurrected by former players in 2001, after the restart of the Irish American Football Association, and played two matches against Belfast Bulls, the first on the 17th Anniversary to the day of the first match against Tyrone Tornadoes.
