Note 2: Brooklyn Dodgers left the League to join the AAFC in 1945 and in 1946 the AAFC merged with the NFL, although in reality what happened was the NFL took over its three most successful franchises: Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers. The Brooklyn franchise was replaced by other New York teams, which changed year on year, most called New York Yanks. Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings were expansion franchises in 1960 and 1961 respectively.

National Football League Championship Games 1933-1966 [Ref: 1]

Report

The National Football League played its first Championship Game in 1933, the first year the League was divided in to Eastern and Western Divisions. In 1960 the American Football League, one of many to use that name, became so successful, it forced a merger with the NFl, with the two League playing the first Super Bowl between their respective Champions in January 1967 (1966 season). These Leagues merged in 1970 to form the AFC and NFC (Conferences within the NFL) which continue to play the Super Bowl between them.

The most successful teams during the NFL Championship Era (1933 to 1966) were the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears with six wins each, followed by the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns with four and Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants with three.

Report

The Regional Football League styled itself as the Spring Development League of America (NFL Europe was the Official Development League of the NFL with 6 teams in Europe only). It had 5 teams placed in the Southern United States and one in Toledo, Ohio.

The Mobile Admirals (Alabama) won the Championship in the League’s only season, defeating Houston Outlaws 14-12. One team, the Ohio Cannon only played in seven regular season matches, but were still allowed to compete in the Playoffs as the Shrevport Southern Knights, their only rival for the fourth playoff sport forfeited their last match with the Cannon..

Other teams were Shreveport Southern Knights, New Orleans Thunder and Mississippi Pride. The League had no TV coverage, no outstanding players and little press or radio coverage. [Ref: 3] The International Football League of 2000 replaced it as the AAA Spring League in the USA. (see XFL Football Leagues Era (1990-2020) for more on AAA Spring Leagues in the USA from 1990-2020).

Brooklyn Bolts went 4-0 winning the FXFL Fall Experimental Football League in 2014. Omaha Mammoths came second with a 3-1 Won-Loss Record, and Blacktips and Boston Breakers both lost all their games.

About

The FXFL or Fall Experimental Football League was a AAA American Football League which drew crowds in the region of 1,500 (Omaha Mammoths v Blacktips, 16 October 2014]

It operated for two seasons, with one team, the Blacktips, playing a half schedule, away from home, both seasons (although named Florida Blacktips). Brooklyn Bolts were the top team both seasons. It was related to The Spring Football League (2017 to Present), a similar showcase league playing a limited schedule.
