At a 4th July Festival match played the following weekend in Moneygall, Co. Offaly, hometown of President Barack Obama’s Irish Ancestors, the Trim Bulldogs won 28-26, with their Offensive Line playing tough winning football, and their defense getting an all-important safety (worth two points) and then blocked a 2-point conversion by the Drogheda Lightning which was the difference between the teams.

A series of Challenge matches were played by Irish American Football League teams in 2002, which were 8-a-side matches played under DV8 rules. They did not count in the standings, and the Dublin Dragons won twice, against Dublin Rebels and University of Limerick Vikings, with the Rebels winning a third match, against Cork Admirals.

American Football Association of Ireland 7-a-side Blitz Final Standings 1998.

Report

Carrickfergus Knights, Queens University Belfast Broncos and Belfast Lasers played in a three-team 7-a-side Blitz in Queens University on the 20th September 1998.

The first game was between the Broncos and Lasers with the game decided by a safety scored by Queens, the only score of the game.

The Second game saw another close encounter, with Carrickfergus Knights scoring a touchdown to beat the Broncos. Gerry Donnelly threw a 40-yard Pass to Greg Clark for what was again the only score of the game.

The final game was a match-up between the Belfast Lasers, playing in their first ever tournament, and the Carrickfergus Knights, who won 20-0, on the back of three touchdowns, scored by Pete Watt, Greg Clark and Aiden Hill. Gerry Donnelly scored a two-point conversion.

In 2010, the Charity Shield was held in aid of the Stroke Association off Northern Ireland, at Aircraft Park, Holywood Road, Belfast, on Sunday, August 29.

The Players and teams were promoting the FAST (Facial weakness, Arm weakness, Speech Problems, Time to call 999) campaign to raise awareness of stroke detection.

On 29 September 2010 Carrickfergus Knights trimuphed 13-7 over hosts Belfast Trojans in the Charity Cup involving five teams in total.

The Dublin Tornadoes and Labatt (Belfast) Spartans both defeted newcomers Antrim Bulldogs in Festival matches in 1988. the Festivals could have been a way for the Irish American Football League teams to try out new players and for the newer teams such as Antrim Bulldogs in 1988 to gain experience before joining the League proper.

Two DV8 American Football 8v8 Blitzes were held in Ireland in 2012, the first in Belfast in September which was won by Belfast Trojans 2nds, and the second in Portadown in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Research, which was also won by Belfast Trojans 2nds, 13-6 over North Kildare Reapers.
